Pastoral Letter

Dear friends,

           I love basketball.

I did not grow up in a sports-loving family. I did not start playing Y ball or rec ball at a young age. I did not grow up in a basketball-centric area. For much of my young life, my family didn’t own a television, so we never watched it. My love of basketball came when I found my own way to it in junior high school. That, however, is a story for another day.

Suffice it to say that my love of basketball continued to grow from middle school onward. My team was/is UNC (a rebellious choice for a SC girl growing up surrounded by fierce allegiances to either Clemson or South Carolina). Much to the dismay of many Carolina fans, though, I do not hate Duke. That also is a story for another day.

Those of us who love basketball have been in our own basketball heaven this past week as the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Tourneys started on Thursday and Friday. Because of my schedule, I mainly watched highlights and late games on Thursday and Friday nights, but Saturday was all basketball, and I loved it.
