Pastoral Letter
Dear friends,
Thank you for the outpouring of love and support you have given to Tim and me following the death of his father last week. We are so grateful to be a part of this community of faith that so generously shares deep compassion and kindness. This has been a difficult season of loss for us both. I know many of you know too well what it is like to go through such a season. Many of you have experienced multiple losses in a short period of time. You know the ways that grief can be layered and how it shows up in unexpected places and ways. We are a community that knows grief, individually and collectively, and we walk through life holding one another up and reminding one another that God is with us, that we are not alone, that there is a bright day at the end of the raging storm. We are not left stranded. In the gospel story we believe and hold fast to, the end is always life. It is always life. Thanks be to God for you and for the community of faith and love that we are to one another. Thanks be to God for the life and light we share with one another as we journey this earthly road together.
Peace, and love, be with you all,
Mindy

Lectionary Class
Join us each Sunday at 9:45 in the Robert Daye Meeting Room (East Parlor) for discussion of the lectionary readings.
August 13: The voice of the Lord sometimes comes to us despite the storm, the wind, the earthquake, or the fire in our lives, speaking a quiet word of reassurance or command. Are you listening?
August 20: One of the great debates among the early church leaders was whether the Gospel message was for Jews only or also for Gentiles. In some passages, even Jesus needs to be convinced that, as Isaiah says, “my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”

Saturday, August 19,
12 noon - 2 p.m.
Pullen Memorial Baptist Church
1801 Hillsborough St, Raleigh
Join the movement for justice
alongside the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NCCADP) for a march and vigil. We will gather in solidarity to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the last execution in North Carolina, reflecting on the lives lost and advocating for a future without death row. Stand with us as we read the names of the 43 people executed in N.C. since 1984, and witness the powerful premiere of "Cradle to the Gurney," a spoken word piece by Nick Courmon, NCCADP Community Engagement Coordinator. Together, we will embark on a short march to Central Prison, sending a resounding call to action to end the death penalty in North Carolina.
Your presence and participation matter. Together, through singing, marching, and a compelling call to action, we will explore ways to put an end to the death penalty in North Carolina and advocate for alternative solutions to capital punishment.

Food Pantry
The summer is humming along, and lots of us are enjoying some blessed vacation time, but one thing has not changed. Families in our community who are facing food insecurity still come, week after week, to the Emanuel Food Pantry in search of nutritious food. It takes a huge number of volunteers to prepare the boxes and bags of food that we distribute to 650 families every week. Won’t you consider giving 2 hours of your time to pitch in? When you volunteer, we promise you will have fun and will leave knowing that your efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors. Sign up here and be part of this important ministry! Questions? Contact Margaret. We cannot wait to see you!
