More bios coming soon!

Hi! My name is Olivia. I’m a mom of three boys, and I’m originally from Hawai’i. I love spending time with my family, reading, playing Sudoku, and thrifting. Growing up, I was very active in my church—singing in the choir, going to summer camps, and helping with the nursery, bus ministry, and Sunday school. I’ve always loved serving my community, and I’m really excited to get to know my new church family!

Hello Parents and Guardians of First Presbyterian Church, My name is Diane Irankunda, and I am thrilled to enter my second year as one of the teachers in the nursery. I am currently a student at Boise State University, majoring in Elementary Education. I enjoy exploring the outdoors, hiking, camping, and finding new hobbies. I look forward to building connections with you all and supporting your children as they take these important steps in their development.

Grades 6-12

Youth Group

From 6:30-8:00pm on Wednesday nights, September - May. Each week the youth group meets for fellowship. We operate a "House System" where students engage in friendly competitions for points and prizes, and we celebrate holidays together, have a diverse slate of recreation and service/mission projects, and go on highly anticipated outings such as snow tubing, ice blocking, and the corn maze! In May, the 5th graders are invited to begin attending youth group. Each summer, we continue meeting creatively for Bible Study and recreational activities, along with traveling together on service/vision/mission trips (see below). Our youth group is led by a group of six adult leaders who supervise and teach together.

Service Projects and Fundraisers

Each year, the youth group runs three fundraisers: Chili Feed (December), Pancake Breakfast (February) and the Gala/Variety Show. The monies raised help sponsor our mission trips (see above). The Youth group also participates in mission/service projects to get to know our neighbors and to follow in Jesus' footsteps as we help our neighbors. We cook and serve food at Friendship Dinners, work on FPC food pantry projects, participate in Sunday worship, and work with the WCA, Communities for Youth, DARE, CATCH, BoiseHIVE, Boise High Brave Bags, nursery/children's chapel/Sunday School supervision, and a variety of other outreach and service projects. FPC students have opportunities to participate in multiple service projects each month.

Youth Mission Trips (International, Domestic, Triennium, & Mystery Mission)

We rotate on a 3-year schedule with international, domestic, and Presbyterian Youth Triennium Conference trips. Students assist with fundraising throughout the year (see below) and families contribute to 1/3 trip cost. High Schoolers can attend International, Domestic, and Triennium. Middle Schoolers can attend Domestic and Mystery Mission Trips. Each trip is between 4-8 days.

Confirmation

Every other year, students grades 9-12 are invited to participate in Confirmation. Confirmation classes meet twice per month. Each student works with an adult mentor in the church and serves in "inreach" and "outreach" programs of the church, learns about church structure and processes, visits other types of faith communities across the Treasure Valley, explores their own faith, and attends a 2-day retreat before the class begins. At the end of Confirmation, students present a "Faith Statement" and are received as members of the church.

Boise High Outreach

Our FPC Youth Room is open to Boise High students throughout the day as a quiet place of respite. Snacks are stocked and Christine will visit on Thursdays as her schedule permits. At the end of the school year, a special meal is catered for our FPC-affiliated high school students!

College

We love our college students! Whether you are a visiting student, doing graduate work in the area, or you grew up at FPC, we want to support you and show you some FPC love. Twice per year we mail college care packages to all of our college students, and FPC leaders are available to meet with college students when they are home on breaks or by phone.

Boise State students: check out "Sophia's Table", an interfaith ministry to college students @BSU! A new ecumenical campus ministry continues to take shape at Boise State University.

Sophia's Table is a joint effort of the PC(USA), UMC, and ELCA, offering BSU students an

inclusive Christian community where they can build real relationships, honor their lived

experience, and grow together in faith.
