Dear First Presbyterian Burlington family,

It is difficult for me to write this, my last weekly e-blast introduction. That might seem strange, but it is one more attempt for me to express my gratitude to God for the time that I have been privileged to spend in your midst as your Transitional Pastor. It is hard because I am not good at saying goodbye.

It has been a blessing to serve with you over the last 20 months. I am grateful for the friendships that we have created and I am grateful for the love that you have shown not only to me, but also to my wife Pam. We were warmly and thoroughly welcomed into this community. We have had the opportunity to share a meal with many of you and for that I am thankful. We have prayed together, studied together, laughed together and cried together. We have lived out our lives together.

In the coming weeks and months I will continue to pray for you, as I have during my time here, and I hope that you will pray for Pam and for me. God has amazing plans for this congregation and I will look forward to hearing of the wonderful ways that you will continue to serve this community. Whenever I introduced myself as one of the pastors from First Presbyterian Church, people’s faces would light up because they knew of all of the different ways that this church has shaped this community with love.

Thank you for the love that you have shared with me and for the love that you will continue to show others. God is glorified in the faithfulness of this church.

I have often used an Irish blessing as a charge and benediction and it seems a fitting way to end: “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of God’s hand.”

Peace,

Stewart

The American Red Cross is planning to hold a blood drive on

February 27, 2024 in Shive Hall

The American Red Cross is planning to hold the First Presbyterian Blood Drive on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Shive Hall from 2:00-6:30 PM. The blood drive is done in memory of Harold Lloyd who organized a number of blood drives at FPC and Barbara Lloyd who was a faithful Red Cross volunteer for many years.

Donor registration is now available. To schedule an appointment go to redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code FPC. If you need assistance or information you may contact Lucy Kernodle, Site Coordinator, at [email protected]. Please schedule your appointment as soon as possible so you will get the time you want! The site, redcrossblood.org also gives information about guidelines about who may donate blood and what to expect as a blood donor.

A useful tool, RapidPass enables donors to complete pre-reading and questions online on the day of the blood drive reducing their onsite registration time by 15 minutes. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass to get your pass on February 27. Rapid Pass does not take the place of scheduling an appointment.

There is a critical shortage of blood now. You can put the power of faith into action and help save a life! Please consider donating blood on February 27! Give the gift of life!

Take Root New Series

Bible Studies for Grown-Ups

Reading Scripture With New Eyes

In Bible Stories for Grown-Ups: Reading Scripture with New Eyes pastor Josh Scott looks at familiar Bible stories and reveals new details and interpretations for an adult audience. This six-week Bible study will consider stories many read as children including Noah's Ark, the binding of Isaac, Jonah and the big fish, Jesus and Zacchaeus, Jesus healing a blind man, and the parable of the talents. Scott reimagines these stories and opens new visions for readers to understand well known pieces of Scripture in our current cultural environment.

Take Root meets in Room 203.
