Food with Friends

This is the LAST WEEK to sign up for a Food with Friends group! This small group ministry allows members to choose from a variety of breakfast, lunch, or dinner group - some are simply for fellowship and others have a more targeted demographic. Look for the green sign up sheets around the church or download a printable PDF version here.

Contact Barbara Dunham with any questions - (229) 881-2957 or bdunham88@gmail.com. Forms may be turned into the offering plate, church office or emailed directly to Barbara.

Interested in learning how to serve as a head usher on Sunday mornings? We will have two Sunday morning training sessions-- you can come to either one, of both if you so choose!

Join us in the Narthex at 10 AM on Sunday, August 27 or Sunday, September 17 to learn what is involved. We'll walk you through the whole process, and also show you where the "cheat sheet" of head usher duties is located (in case you're worried about having to remember everything).

The Alabama Arise Annual meeting this year will be held Saturday, September 30, 10:00 to 12:30. (This will be a hybrid event -- in Person at The Legacy Annex (former downtown site of the EJI Museum), 115 Coosa Street, Montgomery, AL 36104, and via Zoom,) At this meeting presentations are made for proposed 2024 policy priorities.

First Presbyterian is entitled to six delegates. A number of us are individual members of Alabama Arise and are entitled to vote our own memberships and not count as FPC delegates. Since I am the contact for Arise, I will be registering the six delegates separately.

Registration is open now and closes September 20. Anyone interested in participating, please contact Harriette Huggins at harriette.huggins@gmail.com

Provide dinner for the college students this semester!

During the school year, UKirk meets for dinner provided by church members followed by a discussion group. We hope you’ll consider signing up for a Sunday this semester!

Most nights, we expect about 15-20 students, and ask volunteers to bring a main dish, sides/salad, and dessert. UKirk will provide drinks, plates, and utensils. We would love for you to stay and have dinner with us, but understand if you just want to drop off the food.

If cooking for a group seems daunting, consider teaming up with your friends, Sunday school class, or other church group to share the responsibility. But, if you don’t consider yourself a chef, you can make a donation to the UKirk Meal Fund which is used throughout the semester for additional events. You may write a check to FPC Auburn, with "UKirk Meal Fund" written in the memo line.

Help Our Garden Grow

The FPC Community Garden is an important part of our church’s mission in “loving God and our fellow human beings.” We build community and relationships among each other and work to serve the community at large through our bountiful harvests - every bit of food we harvest is donated to the Community Market!

OTHER NEEDS:

Daily Morning Waterings

Volunteers are needed to water on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Watering needs to happen before 10:00 a.m. and can be skipped if it rains. (Contact Katie Forster forster306@charter.net

Weekly Harvest and Deliver to Community Market

(Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings)

The Community Market is open for deliveries on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings. Plastic bags or bins can be used to take in produce. It is helpful if this person has knowledge about what/when to harvest. (Contact Katie Forster forster306@charter.net)

For any other questions about volunteering in the garden, please contact Elder Katie Forster at 334-329-9672 or forster306@charter.net.
