PCM Assists 333 Families During 2022
• One in five people in Lee County lives below the poverty line.
• More than one in six residents of Lee County lacks a stable source of food.
• Thirty-two percent of Alabama families qualify as working poor.
As a response to similar realities, in 1969 our church founded the Presbyterian Community Ministry, an ecumenical ministry of compassion. Its membership and board are comprised of citizens of many faiths and backgrounds who work to positively impact cases of poverty in Lee County. Emphasis is placed on meeting the needs of housing, health, childcare, transportation, and education. Funds are distributed in the form of no-interest loans and grants, depending on the level of need and circumstance.
During 2022, PCM assisted 333 families in diverse ways:
Our power was two days away from being turned off. I was at home with two children and a newborn. Thanks to PCM, our bill was paid and our stress was over. – Deloris
After a burglary, PCM repaired my broken windows. I don’t know how I would have found the additional money to make the repairs otherwise. – Harvey

My kitchen sink was leaking. I could not afford the unforeseen expense of a plumbing repair. PCM volunteers repaired the leak before more damage was done. – Marcia
PCM’s income for 2022 was $185,487; its expenses, $139,366. Sources of income included membership dues, $32,266; memorials, $22,530; federal renovations funds, $26,000; our church, $26,000. Primary expenses included renovations, $35,438; utilities, about $65,000; and rent, $3,500.
