At the River Film Screening & Discussion Opportunities

SATURDAY EVENING, 6PM:

Join us at Pebble Hill (101 S. Debardeleben St.) for a screening of the film, "At the River: A Memoir of Struggle and Grace in the Segregated South."

Among the interviewees are former FPC Auburn pastors Wallace Alston and John Kuykendall. Filmmakers Carolyn Crowder and Rod Murphy will be present to lead a brief question and answer session following the film.

SUNDAY MORNING, 9:45AM:

We are very grateful that on Sunday morning in the Chapel we will be able to continue our discussion with Carolyn and Rod. Come join us to hear about their experiences making this important film, as well as more about Carolyn's experience as a member of FPC Auburn's Westminster Fellowship in the 1960s.

Refreshing Punch, Smiling Faces, and YOU!

Join us in the courtyard following the 11 a.m. worship service for a time of fellowship and refreshment. Greet your neighbors, introduce yourself to visitors, and enjoy God's creation as we spend time together in community.

This wonderful fellowship opportunity continues through the end of October, and we need volunteers to host/serve. Please see this sign up link to reserve your date - you will be contacted ahead of time with details about setup and clean up. For more information about volunteering, please contact Kirstin Yost at at kmyost97@gmail.com or 910-309-1625.

Sign up to feed the college students!

UKirk is starting it’s Sunday evening programming in September, and we need volunteers to provide dinner!

Dinner is from 7-8 p.m. on Sundays in Baird Hall and we usually have about 12-15 people attend. We ask that the meal providers bring dinner and dessert and UKirk will provide the drinks. You are welcome to stay and eat dinner with UKirk. The students are so appreciative of these meals, and eating with them is a great way to get to know them. Sign up for a Sunday evening here.

If cooking is not your gift, you can make a donation to the UKirk Meal Fund which covers other meals we have as a community. To make a contribution, you can send a check to FPC with “UKirk Meal Fund” noted in the memo line.

Thank you for your support of our college students!

Sanctuary Flower Sign-up

There are many available Sundays beginning in July for sponsoring flowers for our Sanctuary! The sign-up sheet is located outside of the receptionist’s office in the main church office building.

If you are unable to sign up in person, you may also contact Sarah Wolak at 334-728-7853 to sign up for a date. You are welcome to split the cost with another family-- just be sure to write both names on the line. The cost of the flowers has been increased to $50 per arrangement, not including tax and delivery fee. As before, you are welcome to bring the arrangements home after the service, or to leave them to be delivered to other members of the congregation.

PCM Assists 83 Families During Second Quarter

The Presbyterian Community Ministry (PCM) provided financial and home repair and renovation assistance to 83 Lee County families during the second quarter of 2022.

Total income for the quarter was $74,152; expenses were $32,113. Income included $9,441 from membership dues, $12,050 from donations, $14,020 from memorial gifts, $30,000 from a one-time Presbyterian Housing Donation, $8,000 in federal funds for renovations, and $620 from loan paybacks. Expenses included about $15,000 for utilities and about $10,000 for home renovations.

The Presbyterian Housing Donation (above) came in the form of a grant from the presbytery to PCM following the sale of Presbyterian Manor in Birmingham. Those funds are earmarked for emergency home repair.

Among those whom PCM helped last quarter were

• Clarissa, a single mother of four who was unable to return to work immediately after the recent premature birth of her youngest child, who has required constant vigilance and careful nursing. Supported only by friends and family, she found it impossible to pay a very high power bill. PCM assisted her with the bill and put her in touch with other sources of help.

• Dennis, whose home developed a severe water leak. When his small social security check was insufficient to pay all of the resulting bill, PCM paid the balance and helped to restore his water service.

• Theresa and her small children, who were left without income when her husband was incarcerated. When her modest income from Door Dash deliveries wasn’t enough to pay her power bill, she faced disconnection. PCM helped her pay the bill and helped to connect her with other organizations that could help her financially.

Donations of any amount from our church members are always welcome. Those who wish to make a gift to PCM should send their checks to PCM, 143 East Thach Avenue, Auburn, AL 36830. Those wishing to become individual annual members ($250) or family members ($300) should send their checks to the same address.
