Our mission is to inspire people to faith in Jesus Christ, nurture disciples of Christ, and serve the world that God loves to the glory of God.
September 2019
Dear Presbyterian Women,

What a privilege it is to serve you as moderator. You are doing God’s work in our church, our city, and our world. It is a blessing and truly inspiring! Our stated purpose includes the phrases… to nurture, to support, to work, and to build… which goes hand in hand with the FPC mission “to inspire, nurture and serve.”

I want you to experience meaningful connections within our congregation through your participation in some aspect of Presbyterian Women. Please call me or send me a text (804) 519-7036 or email ( melissamintz93@gmail.com) so I can help you find a way to be involved!

We are doing a several new things this year:

First, to use our budget for greater good, I am sending this email blast and only a limited number of welcome letters.

Second, to ease into Fall and not rush the end of the Summer, we will not have our first PW program until Tuesday, October 1. Please mark your calendars and sign up to join us for the beginning of a wonderful program year.

We offer several ways to register for our PW Programs:

  • Visit our web page, fpcrichmond.org/pw
  • Sign up on the PW bulletin board—note that it is temporarily around the corner from the welcome table next to the Fellowship Hall to make room for a special display.
  • Call Peggy Sears at 270-6705
  • Email Cynthia Shelhorse at cshelhorse@hotmail.com (type PW luncheon in the subject line)
  • Meals cost $10

You can pick up our annual program bookmark to remind you of the upcoming dates and speakers at your circle meeting, a program, or in the Commons. The PW yearbook and the church website are also resources where you can discover what our women are doing. Feel free to visit any circle if their topic or project sounds interesting to you. This is a great way to make new connections and see the amazing work that others do. Visit fpcrichmond.org/pw to see when each circle meets. Many meetings start in September.

The theme verses I picked this year are inspired by how I imagine many of our speakers and PW members live their lives. It is The Message’s translation of Romans 12:1-2:

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you:
Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work,
and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering.
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.
Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture
that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God.
You’ll be changed from the inside out.

With gratitude and love for each one of you,

Melissa Mintz
P.S. Save the date! We will host the Presbytery of the James PW Fall Gathering on Saturday, November 2. Amy Starr Redwine will be our keynote speaker and women from all over Virginia will be welcomed to our church that morning. I would love for you to attend, help provide breakfast for our guests, or hostess for this event. More info to come!
