Session Meeting Update

The Session of First Presbyterian Church met Sunday afternoon, April 19, via Zoom, with all elders present, along with staff.

The Confirmation students were also present with us, along with their Covenant Partners and the teachers of the program, Susan Burns and Mike Moyers.

The students and Covenant Partners were divided into smaller groups for examination. After those examinations, the Session voted to confirm them, and joyfully anticipates their leading in worship on April 26.

The Session ratified the decision to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program. The program seeks to provide funds to small businesses and not-for-profits equivalent to eight weeks of payroll. After a period of time, if employees are kept on payroll, 100% of the loan is forgiven, effectively making it a grant. The church was approved for this program, and we believe these funds will help us maintain our commitment to keeping our staff intact and paying all, including hourly employees, as we move through this uncertain time.

The Session noted with gratitude that our giving remains steady, and that those who are able have paid their full estimate of giving for the year early. This has also helped us maintain our staff and ministries, as well as our commitments to our mission partners. The Session voted to pay our commitments to those partners in full immediately so that they too can make use of these resources in this time of crisis. Many of our mission partners, such as Graceworks, are seeing significant increases in those seeking help. We remain committed to doing all we can to support them.

Thank you to the entire congregation for your generosity and graciousness in these days. You are an expression of the risen Christ.
Congregational Care - Caring for One Another
We are the church in the celebrations and in the struggles, and the Congregational Care Committee is full of ministries that help us care for one another. Many of these ministries have found new ways to offer care during this time of social distancing. We have also found new ways outside these ministries to care for one another.

How are we helping?

Reaching out : Many of you have shared ways you are able to help others during this time. Children, youth, and adults are sending cards to those who are especially isolated to reflect God’s love on them. Others prefer calling and brightening another person’s day through a conversation. If you need some suggestions of people to contact, email Anne Keener.

Groceries and Medicine : We have a team of people willing to shop for you and pick up other things like medication that you might need. Others have offered to help you with online grocery shopping and scheduling delivery.

Technology : People are willing to help others navigate Facebook worship and Zoom meetings.

Let us help you!
We are called to give and receive. If you are in need of any of these, please contact Anne Keener ( [email protected] or 615-516-0653.) We are here for you.
Online Directory
Just a reminder that we have an online directory available on our website . If you need the password, please contact Glenda Andrews: [email protected] .
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers continue to meet with care receivers utilizing technology. Are the anxieties of life overwhelming you? Would a Christian friend to talk with each week help you through this difficult time?  Your Stephen Ministry team is trained and here to assist those who would benefit from one-to-one weekly Christian care. For more information about Stephen Ministry, reach out confidentially to Stephen Leader Judi Arnold ( [email protected] ) or one of the pastors.
Visitation Ministry
Members continue to reach out to those who regularly are unable to come to worship. These contacts now come through phone calls and cards, but they are even more meaningful during this time of isolation. If you would like to serve through our Visitation Ministry, please contact Karen Hanson ( [email protected] or 407-341-3944.)
Yoga
We are unable to meet at church for yoga each Thursday morning, but we are now meeting on Zoom to practice yoga together and then check in with one another. All are invited to join us at 9:30 each Thursday using this zoom link .
Growth Groups
Growth Groups adapted quickly to Zoom meetings and provided connection during a difficult time. Thank you to all the Growth Group Facilitators for their willingness to lead in new ways, and thank you to all who learned to adapt to new technology to participate. Here are some photos of groups both pre and post Zoom.
