Growth Groups

We hear much about the global pandemic but how does our faith shape our response? Fall Growth Groups will meet for 6 weeks beginning the week of September 13 and will read God and the Pandemic: A Christian Reflection on the Coronavirus and its Aftermath by N.T. Wright. You may purchase the paperback or Kindle version on Amazon.

“In God and the Pandemic, N.T. Wright uses both the Old and New Testaments to help Christians think through their reactions and responses to the pandemic. Offering spiritual guidance during a time of crisis, Wright helps readers reflect on scripture, prayer, and teachings from Jesus' life in order to think differently about disaster and how to react to it.”

We will reflect together on questions such as:
·        What should be the Christian response?
·        How should we think about God?
·        How do we live in the present?
·        Why should we lament?
·        What should we learn about ourselves?
·        How do we recover?

Look for group information coming soon, and prayerful consider joining a group this fall. If you have any questions, contact Sally Wanzer, sgwanzer@comcast.net, Judith Wilson, jakright1@gmail.com, or Anne Keener, akeener@fpcfranklin.org

Prayer Shawl
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to provide comfort and love while we are safer at home. Thank you for all who have responded to God’s grace through the making of these beautiful signs of God’s love and reminder of the prayers of our faith community. Here are a couple recent thank you notes to the Prayer Shawl Ministry from recipients.

Thank you for the beautiful prayer shawl you left for me! I just love it! I will definitely be using it often. What a nice, unexpected gift I found waiting for me when I came home from my surgery!
Sincerely, with gratitude,
Stacey Dvorak

Thank you so much for the precious shawl. Green was daddy’s favorite color. I’ll cherish it forever. I can’t get over the outreach from FPC since my father’s death. I have been so touched by the outpouring of sympathy and kind gestures.
Thank you,
Myna Sowell

Beirut Disaster Relief
The Lebanese people are a kind, compassionate, strong, and resilient people, and we pray for all our community partners there and for all those who are living in fear and grief during this time. We also pray for Rev. Elmarie and Scott Parker in their continued ministry alongside the Lebanese people.

If you would like to donate to relief efforts, you can give in two ways:
The Outreach Foundation is collecting for a Beirut Compassion Fund that will directly aid several of the partners we met during our travels: https://www.theoutreachfoundation.org/updates/2020/8/5/beirut-compassion-fund?fbclid=IwAR15loaLHU4KsKdw7raTV8fmkksixyVyjpakonj6PCmh2aFxCM-O6SFm0zo

Votes for Women
August 18, 2020 - 11:30 AM

Come hear the bells ringing at the church at noon. Bring a chair and listen, or join us in walking around the church as the bells ring 100 times.

On the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, join a celebration of inclusion, inspiration, and voice, featuring our special guest Rosanne Cash — singer, songwriter, author, and narrator of the PBS documentary By One Vote: Woman Suffrage in the South. This virtual experience will culminate with neighbors, universities, and other institutions citywide ringing bells, big and small. In 1920, when the Tennessee Legislature cast its tie-breaking vote to ratify the 19th Amendment, cities across the U.S. rang bells in recognition — but Nashville did not. On August 18, we break that silence with the loudest celebration of the summer.

You can watch this event on YouTube.
