Hello First Presbyterian Church,
One of the new gifts that 2024 brings is our emerging partnership with the United Disciples Christian Church (UDCC). For many years their home has been at the intersection of Belt Line and Grove here in Richardson. The upkeep of their aging building became too much for them, and they had to make the difficult decision to sell their property and find a new place to call home. Last January, one of their members called FPCR and inquired about the possibility of using space at FPCR for their ministry. Here we are a year later and after lots of building tours, conversations, de-cluttering and re-organization projects, the UDCC has moved in.
During the week, their pastor and staff will work out of offices on the first floor of the Christian Education building. Heritage Hall has become their new worship space. Their first worship service here will be this Sunday, January 14. They might be joining us for coffee in the Welcome Center before worship.
UDCC is a small, yet vibrant congregation. Their mission is "Feeding people: body, mind, spirit." I have been so encouraged by their strength and their willingness to experiment as they've embarked on this new adventure. I'm hopeful that the Holy Spirit will create new opportunities in the coming days for us to partner in ministry with the good folks of UDCC. In the coming months, I hope that you will welcome our new friends and get to know them. As we adjust to more folks in the building, there will likely be some challenges, but let us offer an abundance of grace and trust that God is at work.
UDCC is having a garage sale at their former building at 601 E. Main Street this Friday and Saturday, from 9:00-1:00. I hear they've got some treasures!
Peace,
Pastor Rosy
PS. One tangible way you can help us welcome UDCC is by choosing to park closer to the sanctuary and office so that members of UDCC can park closer to the east entrance of the CE building.
