July 29, 2020

This Sunday, we will celebrate the sacrament of communion during worship. As we navigate celebrating the sacraments when we cannot physically be in the same place, we are going to try something a little different this week. Communion is typically something that we do together, face-to-face, and to try to experience that, we will be worshipping together on both Facebook and Zoom. Zoom offers us the ability to see one another as we partake of the elements. If you choose to worship on Zoom, you will see other worshippers and they will see you. If you choose to worship on Facebook, you will see those who are worshipping on Zoom, but they won't see you.

For this Sunday, August 2, please choose one of the following ways to access worship:

Option 1: Access the service via FPCR's Facebook page, by clicking here

Opton 2: Access the service via Zoom.
  • Pre-register for this Zoom meeting, by clicking here.   (Note: Zoom will send you a confirmation email with login information. SAVE that email as you'll need it on Sunday morning).
  • On Sunday morning, this Zoom meeting will open at 10:15 am. Worship will begin at 10:30 am.
  • When you log in to the meeting, you will automatically be "muted" so as to cut down on audio feedback.
  • When we celebrate communion, we hope that you will choose "gallery view" so that we can see one another as we partake of the elements. (This option should be in the top right corner of your screen).
  • This Zoom meeting will be recorded and live-streamed to Facebook. If you encounter technical difficulties on Sunday morning, please contact John Fattaruso at 214-349-82 80 or [email protected] .

No matter which option you choose, please prepare for worship this week by downloading the bulletin at our website ( www.fpcrichardson.org ) and acquiring bread and wine/juice.

As members of the body of Christ, we are all invited to the table to receive God's grace and to  recommit ourselves to love and serve God, one another, and our neighbors in the world. Therefore, we trust that even though we will be celebrating communion while separated in our homes, the Holy Spirit will bind us together in Christ's name.

We look forward to celebrating communion with you.

Peace,

Pastor Rosy & Pastor Jessie

Tools 4 School

It's time for Tools for School! Because of the Pandemic the Mission Ministry will not be able to sort and deliver the supplies as usual so we have decided to support the Network with their efforts to distribute 1200-1400 pre-made supply packs at a cost of $20-$25 each. They are asking for cash donations. If you would like to donate:
  • Make out a check to First Presbyterian Church and note Tools 4 School.   Mail to: P.O. Box 831985, Richardson, Texas 75083.
  • OR click below for the FPCR online giving and designate to Missions.
We will collect money through August 7th.  Thank you for being a blessing!

Are you headed back to school soon?  Drop by between 10:00 and noon, and drive through the porte cochere for a special back-to-school blessing. Then, park your car in a designated spot. We'll have the Kona Ice truck on campus and we'll enjoy some fellowship time together at a safe distance from one another.

More details to come, but if you'd like to take part,  please RSVP by clicking  here (We want to make sure we have plenty of snow cones!)

Behind the Scenes:
Making Worship Happen During a Pandemic
by Frank Camp

Streaming our weekly worship services to Facebook Live used to be an easy operation.  We would just turn the camera on during our live worship service.  No more.  COVID-19 has seen to that.  Protecting the health of our staff and other worship participants has become a priority that has necessitated implementing special measures to produce a recording of our weekly worship services.

Here's how it is done.

Worship is now recorded in advance in separate segments on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The music pieces are recorded separately from the other elements of worship.  This procedure is based on the objective of minimizing the number of people in the chapel at any given time and always maintaining social distancing and wearing masks when those present are not speaking.  To film the main elements of worship, Randy Phillips controls the camera from the back of the chapel.  He uses an iPad to pan the camera and adjust the sound as necessary.  The soloist arrives later and uses earbuds to hear the music that Edwin recorded earlier.  The soloist is alone in the chapel when singing, with Ralph directing from the hallway and operating the camera.

It's now time to edit and assemble the pieces.  The award for Best Film Editing goes to--Ralph Stannard.  It usually takes Ralph about 4-5 hours to assemble the different pieces of the worship service into a single video.  On Fridays, Ralph delivers to Rosy a USB stick with the worship video.  Rosy uploads the video and schedules it to be "premiered" on Facebook at 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings.  During the "Premiere," Jessie and Rosy respond (as "FPCR") to some of the Facebook comments offered. That's a wrap.
