July 1, 2020

July 1 marks the beginning of yet another month where we are physically apart from one another. As much as I trust that we are making the right decision to keep our building closed and to do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19, I really miss seeing y'all.

However, we have a few opportunities coming up when we can "see" one other in some way:
  • TODAY, from 9:30-11:30, we'll be hosting the Drive-Thru Food Drive for the Network. Pastor Jessie, Becky Lormor and I are looking forward to waving to you!
  • Remember that we have online Fellowship Coffee Hour each Sunday morning! All are invited!
  • I'd love to "visit" with you 1-on-1 via Zoom or a phone call. Click here to schedule a time for us to visit and to catch up.
On a personal note, I want to share with you that Jay and I have decided to postpone our wedding. Our new wedding date is November 6, 2021. While we are sad to delay our wedding, we are hopeful that our new date will allow us to have the wedding of our dreams. Jay and I are grateful for your prayers!

Peace,

Pastor Rosy

Network Food Drive
We continue to partner with St. Barnabas and Canyon Creek Presbyterian Churches, to collect food for the Network of Community Ministries. On Thursday, July 2, you can deliver your donations from 9:30 to 11:30 under FPCR's porte cochere. The no-touch protocol for drop off remains the same: drive through, pop your trunk or back hatch, and volunteers will gather the food from your vehicle. Do not get out of the car. Network especially needs soups, canned meats, canned vegetables, rice, beans, peanut butter, and jellies.

Mid-Summer Sunday School Kits

At the same time you deliver food, families with children in preschool through grade 6 (completed) can pick up their AT-HOME Inter-generational Sunday School kits for July and early August. Kits provide materials and instructions to share meal ideas, games, crafts, Bible lessons, prayers, singing, and more, at home on any day of the week!  If you can't get to the drive-thru on July 2, contact  becky@fpcrichardson.org for other delivery options.

Happy Summer!

At this month's Session meeting, we issued commendations to Harry & Lea Perkins for their faithful and valued work as Co-Treasurers for the past several years. As of June, Sara Godecke and Janice Fandrick are the new Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, respectively. We're grateful to all of them for their financial acumen and guidance! We also commended Jeanne Stone, Jan Warner, and Wayne Geyer for their creative and generous work on David's Sabbatical Send-Off.

Speaking of finances, the budget continues to be in good shape overall. A couple of facility issues are on the horizon that will need to be addressed: aging & broken sewer lines in a few locations (both the CE building and the "West Wing") that need replacement, and some air conditioning work in the Chapel and Ernst Hall. Cost and work plan estimates are being gathered. More to come on these items!

The next date for communion is August 2. Watch for more details in the ePress about some new ways to help strengthen our connection to each other while we celebrate the Lord's Supper.

The Session is also spending some time in discernment about how to consider and respond to the turmoil the country is experiencing regarding racial justice. There are several denominational and presbytery resources we have available to inform our thinking as well as other recommended reading. It's an issue for us all to be praying about and pondering.

What stories of race and racism did you grow up with? What feelings are evoked in you when the topic of race is considered? Many of us feel anxious, sad, or guilty, and that's why we are gathering each week to discuss "Anxious to Talk About It" by Dr. Carolyn B. Helsel. We meet on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. on Zoom and it's not too late to join us for these important conversations.
