Spring 2020 - Updates from the Forever Parks Foundation
Hello Friends of the Forever Parks Foundation Board,

We hope this email finds all of you safe and healthy in these times of uncertainty. Working from home, navigating childcare and school closings while making sure we continue to keep up with the latest CDC guidelines has us feeling all a bit out of our element these days. However, we are confident that the City of Pearland and our community will work together and come out even stronger. In the meantime, we ask everyone to continue to heed the guidance of our local officials and the CDC.

We are fortunate that it is finally spring in Pearland and despite everything uncertain right now, we are still able to go outside and get fresh air. Put a leash on your pup, pack the kids in the stroller or get everyone's bike helmets on and go visit one of our many trails around the city including Mary's Creek Trail (between McLean Road to Magnolia Road), Shadow Creek Nature Trail (1801 Kingsley), or the newly finished Clear Creek trail. Of course, make sure to continue practice social distancing guidance which currently includes at least six feet of space between you and anyone else you may encounter on the trails. For a map of all of the available sidewalk and trails in Pearland, please click here.

Our team at the Dolores Fenwick Nature Center also put together a great set of activities for those of you looking to keep little hands busy. If you don't already follow them on Facebook, please do for even more ideas!

As you may have seen, we had to postpone our new marquis spring event, Night With the Wild, per guidance to slow the spread. Please keep up to date on our Facebook page as well as we are excited to host that event later this year in celebration of the one year anniversary of the Dolores Fenwick Nature Center. We hope this event will become an annual "must do" for our FPF Friends!

Finally, we are excited to share our goals for this year including the following:

1) Pearland Parks and Recreation Financial Assistance Program
Last year, the Foundation chose Financial Assistance as an area of great needs and as a result provided $5,000 as a means to kickstart the program growth. The Foundation funding supported membership access for over 30 individuals, as well as four weeks of summer camp for a very deserving child in Pearland. This year, the Foundation has set its goal on securing $10,000 to further support program growth and impact even more Pearland families' health and wellness in 2020.

2) Educational Pond and Wetlands project
The Rotary Club of Pearland awarded their Annual District grant to Pearland Parks and Recreation towards the cost to install an Educational Pond and Wetland area at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center. The Forever Parks Foundation has committed to raise the additional $24,000 needed to complete the project. The project is currently scheduled to begin April 17th and we would love your support - please consider donating to this project!

3) All-Inclusive Playground
We are excited to announce that we have prioritized the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch to be the location of our first All Inclusive Playground project. We are in the process of engaging with an experienced consultant, Shane's Inspiration, for design, project management, and fundraising support services. With your support, we not only will make the first All Inclusive Playground in Pearland a reality to compliment the soon to be installed, Miracle field, but we hope to open additional all inclusive spaces elsewhere in the future! If you would like to get involved, please respond to this email and let us know - this is a big project and we will need community support!

Look for more communication from us in the near term about all of these goals and how you can help! In the meantime, stay safe and stay healthy everyone!

Thank you,
Kelly Moody
