Gluten-Free Diet May Help Reduce Nerve Pain for Millions of People
Gluten-Fee Diet
A gluten-free diet may help reduce nerve pain in millions of people, according to a study linking gluten to peripheral neuropathy.
Experts came up with the  gluten-free diet for people with celiac disease - an autoimmune disorder involving damage to the small intestine upon the consumption of gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. However, the diet has caught on as a popular trend even to people without celiac disease. In fact, experts also recommend this diet to people suffering from neuropathy.
Diabetic Nerve Damage May Increase Energy Needed for Walking
Diabetic Nerve Damage
A new study suggests that diabetes-related nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) may reduce the amount of energy stored by the Achilles tendon during walking. The tendon connects the back of the heel to the calf muscles. This reduction increases the energy required for locomotion ("cost of walking"). The article is published ahead of print in the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Nerve Damage in Type 2 Diabetes
By examining the cornea of the eye with a special microscope, it may be possible - within ten minutes - to diagnose if a person with type 2 diabetes has peripheral neuropathy. This according to a study among diabetics in Skelleftea, north Sweden.
