JENNIFER'S STORY...
Jennifer and her daughters fled from an abusive husband and father to a local women’s shelter for refuge and support. When the shelter learned of our Voucher Program, they referred Jennifer to Family Promise of South Palm Beach County.
After being fully vetted by us, we accepted them into our program. Jennifer wanted to keep her family in Boynton and proceeded to search for an affordable three-bedroom apartment. It took some time, but she was successful and on her way to long-term stability.
Each week, the Family Promise Case Manager and Counselors saw Jennifer and the girls show signs of relief after years of abuse. In case management, clients are given the opportunity to improve life skills such as budgeting and parenting. In counseling sessions, clients participate in individual counseling to better their mental health wellness and cognitive thinking.
Jennifer filed for divorce, and the husband decided to take Jennifer to court for shared custody of the children. Jennifer was determined to protect her daughters from their father and was able to negotiate a discounted rate with her attorney. Her legal fees reached $10,000. She devoted her savings to the legal battle fees towards the legal battle against her abusive husband.
We would like to thank those who were able to financially support Jennifer. We would also like to highlight the generous donation of $1,000 given by Soroptimist International of Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach to alleviate some of Jennifer’s legal expenses. Jennifer now has sole custody of her children.
Jennifer has shown great resilience in protecting her children, providing them with the best stable environment possible, and giving them the love and respect, they deserve. We know that Jennifer and her daughters will be successful in life.
