New! Tampa City Council Approves $35 Million for Ybor Harbor Development

The Tampa City Council unanimously approved $35 million in CRA funding for Ybor Harbor, a 32-acre redevelopment project that will transform the underutilized waterfront between Ybor City and Channelside. The funding will support infrastructure improvements, including underground utilities, roadways and a marine seawall, as part of an estimated $200 million investment in site infrastructure.

Supporters called the project transformational, while also stressing the need to ensure nearby residents and small businesses can share in the area's growth. Developers said 10% of the housing will be affordable and noted the site contains two active brownfields that will require environmental cleanup before redevelopment can proceed.

New! St. Cloud’s $60 Million Idea To Remake Downtown Core

Downtown St. Cloud could be staring down a major makeover, as a Winter Park developer negotiates a roughly $60 million mixed-use complex on city-owned land just west of City Hall. The pitch, submitted through a city procurement to find a public-private (P3) redevelopment partner, is now under active negotiation with Community Redevelopment Agency staff and city officials.

City Community Redevelopment Agency minutes and staff memos show Atlantic has asked the CRA for a $6.25 million contribution to pay for 250 public parking spaces the city is requiring as part of the project. The same documents note the city cleared three surplus homes on Massachusetts Avenue late last year to assemble the redevelopment site. Staff also outlined plans in the minutes to schedule a special budget meeting before the proposal heads to the council, per City of St. Cloud CRA minutes.

Atlantic’s bid plugs into a broader downtown concept city planners rolled out this spring, centered on new housing, upgraded streetscapes, and riverfront amenities as a way to energize the core and support more permanent retail. That long-range plan and the city’s renderings indicate the effort could play out over multiple years, with officials expecting planning and financing work to unfold well before any construction equipment shows up.

New! Ft. Lauderdale, CRA Officials Break Ground on New Sistrunk Affordable Housing Project

The City of Fort Lauderdale broke ground on a $42 million mixed-use project for affordable housing and commercial space, assisting residents who are still struggling to find places to live.

The Aldridge and the Laramore along the historic Sistrunk corridor is a twin building project with 72 rental apartments and street-level retail spaces at 1204 Sistrunk Boulevard

According to the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency, the Sistrunk Apartments project will feature two five-story buildings, each with 36 units, plus ground-floor commercial space geared toward small, neighborhood-serving businesses.

CRA project materials put the development at roughly $42 million and say that long-term affordability restrictions will be included in the deal to ensure rents stay below market levels over time.

Historic Sunset Lounge Brings Jazz, Soul, and History to West Palm Beach Community

The Sunset Lounge in West Palm Beach’s Historic Northwest District has reopened after a long-awaited revitalization, marking its 100th year as a cornerstone of jazz, soul, and community pride. The West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the City of West Palm Beach worked together to preserve the venue’s storied past while creating a world-class cultural hub.

Originally built in the 1920s, the Sunset Lounge rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s as a premier venue for African American artists barred from mainstream spaces during segregation. Legends like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong performed here, creating a rich musical legacy still celebrated today.

Bank to Business Center Project Aims for July Completion

The former Wachovia bank building in downtown Sebring has a few weeks to go until its renovation into an office center is complete.

The Blackmon family, who is also renovating/restoring Harder Hall, acquired the building at 228 N. Ridgewood Drive in January 2024 from the Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency.

“It looks great. At this point, it is a new building,” Robert Blackmon said Monday to the CRA Board. Drywall, all new ducting, new electric and plumbing, all new interior glass, and a new elevator have been installed. The exterior was painted twice.

The CRA Board unanimously approved updates on the original agreement between the CRA and the Blackmon family for the property at 228 N. Ridgewood Drive: the use of the building was changed to “all commercial,” a previously agreed incentive, from the CRA to the Blackmon family, in the amount of $600,000 and a completion date of July 31, 2026.

‘This Moment Matters’: Rays Stadium Deal Heads Toward Key City, County Votes

After years of negotiations and failed stadium efforts, local leaders and the Tampa Bay Rays say they are now closer than ever to reaching a deal to bring Major League Baseball to Tampa.

City officials, Hillsborough County leaders and Rays executives gathered Friday at Tampa City Hall to promote a newly negotiated non-binding memorandum of understanding for a proposed Rays ballpark and massive mixed-use development project at the Dale Mabry campus of Hillsborough College.

The Hillsborough County Commission could vote on the non-binding agreement as soon as next Wednesday, followed by a Tampa City Council vote a day later. The Community Redevelopment Agency Board and Hillsborough College trustees are also expected to weigh in on portions of the proposal.
