New! Project Offers Secrets To Affordable Workforce Housing Communities

CRAs provide affordable housing opportunities #redevelopmentworks

Workforce housing can be pretty basic, but when Pearl Homes’s Marshall Gobuty built 86 homes at Hunters Point that delivered LEED Zero certified homes and also showcased homes that could operate for days off grid, he created a new standard.

While the homes cost more to build, the efficiency of the homes lowered the operational costs enough to deliver significant savings over time, along with the ability to receive hefty tax credits. Plus, the homes can create more power than they consume, so excess energy is stored in a battery in each home that can be tapped during emergencies, even for days at a time.

Gobuty is on a mission to share this resilient and sustainable home template to improve the places we live on a larger scale. Recently, he teamed up with Jeff Burton, the executive director at the Community Redevelopment Agency and Economic Development for the City of Bradenton, a town just south of Tampa with a population bordering on 60,000.

New! New Mural at the Bond Community Health Center

CRAs preserve and showcase the area’s history and cultural heritage #redevelopmentworks

The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA), Bond Community Health Center, and the Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) are proud to present a brand-new mural at the Bond Community Health Center, YouRx, located at 1549 S. Monroe Street in the Greater Frenchtown/Southside Tallahassee CRA district. This significant piece, created by muralist Myah Freeman (graduated FSU in 2021), was unveiled on November 12, 2025, and is part of the broader Mural Makeover Project, a collaborative public art initiative designed to deliver custom murals that prevent and abate unwanted graffiti and tagging.

The Mural Makeover Project was made possible through a grant from the Knight Foundation, awarded by the Community Foundation of North Florida, and matching funds from the CRA. Additional mural installations are scheduled throughout November 2025, with a planned grand opening and mural art walk in December 2025.

New! Sebring and CRA Pitching in to Restore Centennial Mural

CRAs preserve and showcase the area’s history and cultural heritage #redevelopmentworks

The City of Sebring and the Community Redevelopment Agency will chip in to help pay the cost to restore the Sebring Centennial mural, which is visible from South Ridgewood Drive.

The CRA Board had previously agreed to pay half the cost to repaint the wall (over the mural) with the total cost of the paint job being $2,275, but the CRA did not want to cover the extra cost to restore the mural.

At the urging of Mayor John Shoop, the City Council proposed splitting the extra cost to restore it with the CRA.

At Monday’s CRA Board meeting, City Administrator Scott Noethlich said Shoop approached him about the Centennial mural and asked to bring it before the City Council to see if there was any desire to participate in restoring the mural.

The quote for the restoration project is $5,500, he said. The CRA had approved a grant of $1,137.50 (to the property owners), which is half the cost of painting the wall (over the mural).

West Palm Beach’s Historic Sunset Lounge Set to Open

CRAs transform communities #redevelopmentworks

After a 3-year-long battle over who would operate the historic Sunset Lounge in West Palm Beach, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is now in charge after it decided not to negotiate any longer with Vita Lounge, and the venue is set to finally open next week.

A spokesperson with the City of West Palm Beach tells me this is an active legal process. Right now, the city owns the Sunset Lounge, but the CRA operates it.

Vita Lounge won the original bid to run the lounge in 2022 but was disqualified, then put back in charge after a judge’s ruling. The city and Vita Lounge negotiated for months on how to reopen and run the Sunset Lounge, but the city finally lost patience and voted to end the conversation. The sunset lounge is set to open next Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. The “Soul in the City” concert series will now be held at the Sunset Lounge.
