New! $5.5 Million Plan Proposed to Improve Sidewalks in Downtown Tallahassee
Multi-million dollar investments could be coming to downtown Tallahassee.
The Monroe Street enhancement project is up for consideration, and if the plan gets approved some significant changes could be coming to Monroe Street between Jefferson and Call Streets.
“As we work very hard to make our downtown become an 18-hour downtown, we need to also make sure that this is a safe place,” said City Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox. “The economic impact of being able to have safe sidewalks and being able to get in and out of businesses, it’s going to pay off.”
The project is expected to cost about $5.5 million, and the commission is asking the CRA to fund $2.5 million of those dollars.

New! CRA Announces Major Land Acquisition to Revitalize South Cape
The City of Cape Coral’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is planning to purchase nearly 19 acres of land to the east of Bimini Basin in a strategic move to revitalize this part of the city. The CRA Board is set to vote on this item at a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 4 p.m.
The CRA’s mission is to address blight and foster economic growth in areas that have seen decline. The neighborhood surrounding the CRA’s planned purchase, located south of Cape Coral Parkway between Tarpon Court and Coronado Parkway, has long been struggling and is still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Ian.
This acquisition will be a crucial component of a broader redevelopment strategy aimed at transforming South Cape. These 43 parcels are set to become the foundation for a comprehensive redevelopment project, featuring new housing, commercial spaces, and public amenities.
