Determine how much needs to be done
Make a list of important tasks, and form a timeline. Do you have the tools and the physical ability to complete the tasks safely? If you can’t or you’re not sure, then maybe consider getting help from a professional or someone at home. (Isn’t that what those kids are for?!)
Pace your spring cleaning goals
During the first nice weekend of spring, there is often a mad dash to get everything done in two days or less, and then spend the next weeks suffering. Before this happens to you, ask yourself what tasks can wait. Prioritize items that need to be done first, and save those items that aren’t as time sensitive for later. Your body will thank you.
Consider your winter activity level
If you haven’t been very active all winter long, then it’s definitely unwise to try and complete ALL of your landscaping chores in one weekend. It’s important to warm up and train. Better to ease in and allow the body to adjust, than push through and get an overuse injury.
Update or start your exercise plan
Spring and summer offer more options for activities that you can include in your exercise routine. The more you mix it up, the less likely you’ll get bored of your exercise plan. If you’re just beginning to get active, do something you enjoy in a setting with easy access. If you involve an exercise partner, your chances of success will increase. Start slowly and build as you gain strength and endurance. Get out there and have fun!
Schedule health screenings & appointments
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to make your annual health screenings and appointments. Annual check-ups are not something you should skip, so get those dates onto your calendar ASAP!
Declutter & organize your medicine cabinets
The winter months can take a toll on your health. From common cold medicines to antibiotics, we tend to stock up our medicine cabinets, and after a few months, those cabinets can look like a war zone. Take this time to throw out any expired or unused medications, loose pills, and empty bottles.
Replace old workout shoes
Your
running shoes have a lifetime
of about 300 to 500 miles. If you can’t remember when you bought your shoes, if your shoe no longer has any tread, or if you can feel that your shoes are offering less support than previously, it’s time to get a new pair.
Get outside
If you’ve been hunkering down inside over the winter months, it’s time to get outside for a walk, bike ride, gardening, or just to sit and enjoy the warmer scenery.
A little bit of sunshine can do wonders for the soul.
