New Hunterdon Board Deputy Director Calls For Strategic Parks Use Plan

Newly sworn in Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners Deputy Director Zach Rich said county parks are a key responsibility of the Board and called for the development of a new strategic parkland use plan, during remarks at the January 18th Board meeting.   Rich, who participated in the January 4th Re-organization meeting by phone because he was quarantining after a covid-19 close contact, was sworn in as Deputy Director on January 14th by the new State Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio, from Hunterdon County’s District 23.   The new Deputy Director, who is also serving as the Board’s liaison for the Parks Division this year, stated, “Parks have never been more important than right now, during the pandemic, as people wish to get out into the clean, open spaces of our parklands.” Click here to read more

Hunterdon Commissioners Award American Rescue Grant Funds For Food Assistance In County

Hunterdon County’s Board of Commissioners, at the January 18th meeting, approved American Rescue Fund grants for food assistance to America’s Grow A Row for $144,000 and the Flemington Area Food Pantry for $77,851, for infrastructure improvements that will assist in making more fresh food available to those in need in the county.   Board of Commissioners Director John E. Lanza stated, “One of the tenets of the federal American Rescue Fund grant is to provide needed assistance to vulnerable and underserved populations. These grants meet that requirement and will do the most good, for the most people.   Hunger is a significant issue, particularly during the pandemic. And these two programs play a major role in providing vital for food access for vulnerable people here in the county.” Click here for more information

Hunterdon Increases Focus On  Economic Development And Tourism   Board Names Saluk As Department Director

Hunterdon County’s economic development initiative was given renewed emphasis and an expanded mission at the January 18th Board of Commissioners meeting, as the Board authorized the creation of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism within the County’s operating table of organization and named current Division Head Marc Saluk as the Department Director.   Hunterdon Board of Commissioners Director John E. Lanza stated at the meeting, “This Board believes that by elevating economic development to the department level and renaming the unit the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the county can give tourism the attention it deserves as an economic driver."   Click here to read the full story
