FREE Trial Fitness Classes


Try out a variety of fitness classes for FREE September 9-14! If you find the class that’s right for you, register and join us weekly. All classes are at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center. For ages 16+. Registration required. FREE classes offered include:


  • Strength & Cardio for Active Adults, 5:45-6:45PM, September 9
  • 20/20/20, 6-7PM, September 10
  • Kickboxing, 6-6:45PM, September 11
  • Strength & Cardio for Active Adults, 9-10AM, September 14

Inaugural Foundation Bags Tourney


Teams of two compete in a round-robin format followed by single or double-elimination tournament for a great cause. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Plainfield Park District Foundation, which provides scholarships for residents to participate in Park District programs. Fee of $45/team includes unlimited pizza and refreshments. Adult beverages are available on site for purchase. Tourney starts at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 21 at Eaton Preserve (prior to Autumn Family Fun Fest). Sponsored by Busey Bank.

Traveling StoryWalk


The next StoryWalk event is set for 6 to 8 p.m., August 7 at Tamarack Settlement, W. 127th Street in Plainfield. Join the Plainfield Area Public Library for, "Wake Up, Trucks!" by Jodie Parachini with a craft provided by the Park District and a frozen street by the Plainfield Police Department. This is a FREE event. No registration is necessary.

Ice Cream Social


Escape the heat and cool down with some frozen dessert by coming to the Ice Cream Social 4 to 6 p.m., August 8 at Village Green! Admission includes activities, games/prizes, after-hour access to the splash pad; and, of course, an amazing scoop of ice cream!

Jammin' in August


Todd Downing Tall Tales & Silly Songs will entertain the little ones (ages 2-6) for FREE 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., August 9 at Village Green. No registration is necessary. This is a make-up of the Jammin' in June Concert that was cancelled June 25.

Heritage Oaks


The playground at Heritage Oaks is now open and ready for play! Site furnishings (bench, shelter, trash receptacles) are coming soon.

Fall Coed T-Ball League


Players (ages 3-6) learn the rules of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship while developing skills and having fun in this Fall Coed T-ball League. The first two weeks are practices and the remainder of the season is games. Everyone receives a hat and shirt. Participants must bring their own glove and helmet. Registration deadline is August 16.

Rockin' the Green


Plainfield’s very own School of Rock performs starting at 5 p.m., August 27 at the final Cruise to Village Green. The Park District also will be on hand under the pavilion with FREE blow-up guitars for the first 50 kids.

Scout Badges at NTEC


Earn your grooming badge at Normantown Equestrian Center! Scouts learn the basics of horse safety and are shown how to properly groom a horse. The grooming session is followed by a short ride on a horse or pony that is led by a handler. Sessions are offered by appointment only on available Sunday afternoons, now through October. Contact Barn Assistant Keri McNellis for more information.
