Saturday Health Fairs at Micronesia Mall
FREE health screenings available to all who attend
In an effort to improve the health of the community, TakeCare will be hosting health fairs on Saturdays on August 27, September 3, 10, 17 and 24, and on November 5, 12, 19 and 26, and December 3 and 10.
Free and open to the public, the health fairs will be held from 11:00 am - 5:00pm at the Micronesia Mall, at the former Dollar Discount store in corridor 4.
Participants can take advantage of free health screenings that will include body composition measurements (including body weight, body fat percentage, and body mass index), blood pressure, random blood glucose, and a brief diabetes risk survey. FHP Vision Center will provide free vision screenings.
“TakeCare is holding these health fairs to help those who participate to learn more about their health,” said Ernest Aquino, TakeCare wellness team lead. “Information is key and while we are not diagnosing any conditions, we do encourage participants to be proactive and take their results to their primary doctor to learn how to lead a healthier and balanced lifestyle."
Guam Cancer Care, St. Luke’s Medical Center in Manila, Philippines, Guam Diabetes Association, American Red Cross, ASC Trust, and Guam Radiology Consultants will also participate and provide information about their organizations and services.
U.S. Federal employees and annuitants and other TakeCare commercial members, are encouraged to inquire about their 2023 health plan offerings, including provider network, wellness programs, and gym fitness partner information.

Federal Program Renews with TakeCare for 2023
Continuing its long standing relationship, the United States Office of Personnel Management renewed its Federal Employee Health Benefit Program with TakeCare Insurance Company, Inc..
Open Season for the FEHB 2023 benefit year will be from November 7 through December 12, 2022.
“During our forty five-plus year relationship, we at TakeCare have worked hard to provide our valued Federal members access to quality health insurance services, comprehensive health benefits including access to preventive, wellness, disease management and fitness programs, and optimal health care delivery options including access to the FHP Health Center on Guam” said Arvin Lojo, TakeCare health plan administrator.
As a health insurance provider covering more than 5,500 Federal civilian employees, retirees and family members through the FEHB program on Guam, the CNMI, and the rest of the Marianas, TakeCare is held to higher health industry standards set by Office of Personnel Management and the United States Office of the Inspector General.
TakeCare was the first health plan in the region to be accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care beginning in June 2016. TakeCare has also been participating in the National Committee for Quality Assurance Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set reporting for more than 10 years as part of its continued commitment to delivering quality health care services to its members.
TakeCare’s expanded provider network on Guam — including, but not limited to, the Guam Memorial Hospital, Guam Regional Medical City, Seventh-Day Adventist Clinic, American Medical Center, IHP, Guam Radiology Consultants, and exclusive access to FHP Health Center for FEHB participants — is the largest provider network of any insurance plan in the region.
With its nationally recognized Wellness and Disease Management programs and innovative Fitness program, TakeCare’s members in the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program receive access to 19 fitness partners including the largest fully functioning fitness center with locations in Agana & Dededo; no-cost wellness education classes to learn about nutrition, prevent heart disease, quit smoking, and control diabetes; and wellness and fitness cash incentives for individual and family members to be encouraged to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle around the key elements of wellness: Be Active, Eat Right, Relax & Unwind and staying Socially Connected.

Every other Wednesday in the Pacific Daily News, Ernest Aquino, TakeCare’s wellness team lead, and Jennifer Artero, the diabetes educator at the TakeCare Wellness Center, co-write Wellness Wednesdays, a column offering tips and suggestions to live a balanced lifestyle.
Improve your diabetes health with exercise - August 17, 2022
Increased physical activity and exercise are essential to managing and improving diabetes-related outcomes. However, the two are often interchanged when they are two separate things. Physical activity is any bodily movement that requires you to burn energy. These movements are related to your daily activities, occupation and leisure. Exercise is an activity that is planned and structured, typically with the purpose of improving your health. This can be going to the gym, daily walks, weekly group fitness classes, etc.
