The Foundation for Rural Education Excellence, a registered 501 (C)(3) organization, was founded in 1998 to facilitate philanthropic support for rural school districts of the
North East Florida Educational Consortium
(NEFEC): Baker, Bradford, Columbia,
Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, Suwannee and Union Counties as well as Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and PK Yonge Developmental Research School. Working collaboratively, our mission is to enhance academic success and career opportunities for rural students in northeast Florida.

Flagler Bulldog Patrol Presents to NEFEC Board

Members of the Flagler Palm Coast (FPC) Bulldog Patrol presented their project to the NEFEC Board of Directors on April 18, 2019.
The Bulldog Patrol has assembled classroom survival kits with the help of fellow students in FPC’s Fire Leadership Academy; facilitated getting first-aid training for teachers; coordinated with students in the school’s aeronautics program and Air Force JROTC to work on a plan for first responders to use drones to monitor the campus during an emergency; collaborated with members of the school’s television production team to create a safety video; and worked with Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly to have FCSO K-9 units randomly patrol their school.

2019 Northeast Florida Career Fair

The Northeast Florida Education Career Fair was held yesterday at the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park. NEFEC in partnership with Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Hamilton, Gilchrist, Madison, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union Counties hosted the event. District representatives met with educators traveling from surrounding counties and states as far as Ohio, Arizona, Kansas, Tennessee, and Georgia. Many of the participating districts made conditional contract offers and have scheduled follow-up interviews back in their county where they anticipate making offers as soon as allocations are approved.

Elementary Literacy Initiative 2019-2020
|
|
NEFEC will be facilitating an elementary literacy initiative in 2019-2020. Nearly 700 educ
ators from 22 schools will participate in institutes this summer with implementation next school year.
Over 40 educators from nine NEFEC districts are prepared to assist as trainers in NEFEC's Literacy Initiative. These dedicated practitioners participated in two days of professional learning on April 25th and 26th in Starke. During this time participants increased their knowledge in data visualizations, dyslexia and dysgraphia, metacognition, phonics, phonological awareness, fluency, significant sentences, vocabulary, close reading, and text-dependent questions. New trainers will work alongside NEFEC trainers in three 4-day summer institutes.

Summer Leadership Conference
NEFEC's Annual Summer Leadership Conference will be held July 9-11, 2019, at the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
