Teachers from middle and high schools across Putnam County recently gathered for a convening of the first ever social studies learning community in their district. This learning community of 15 educators is facilitated through a partnership between NEFEC and the Putnam County School District.
The mission of the learning community is to improve instructional practices in social studies and increase student achievement. This work includes both professional learning and classroom walkthroughs by the teachers to view each other's implementation of best practices.
Most of these educators have in the past attended both NEFEC's Social Studies Standards Institute and the NEFEC CONNECT: Social Studies regional learning community and are taking their work to a deeper level.
