The Foundation for Rural Education Excellence, a registered 501 (C)(3) organization, was founded in 1998 to facilitate philanthropic support for rural school districts of the
North East Florida Educational Consortium
(NEFEC): Baker, Bradford, Columbia,
Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, Suwannee and Union Counties as well as Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind and PK Yonge Developmental Research School. Working collaboratively, our mission is to enhance academic success and career opportunities for rural students in northeast Florida.

NEFEC/ISRD Fall School Counselors Forum
|
|
Nearly 100 school counselors and district staff attended the NEFEC/ISRD (Institute for Small and Rural Districts) Fall Counselor Forum on October 17
th in Gainesville.
Counselors received a mental health update from Florida Department of Education School Counseling Consultant Andrew Weatherill that included how to access resources through discretionary projects, the new mental health module series, and a review of mental health allocation plans.
Liesl Piotti, President of Redirections, Inc., also shared social/emotional tools and strategies that counselors can share with their students to help build mental and emotional resiliency.

Digital Support Colleagues Connect Session
|
|
On Wednesday, October 17
th educators from three member districts attended this year’s first NEFEC CONNECT: Digital Support Colleagues session. These colleagues are supporting the instructional technology integration efforts back at their schools and districts. This group was composed of classroom teachers, media/technology integration specialists, and instructional coaches from Union, Suwannee, and Levy Counties. The topics the participants explored included a reflection on practice, supporting reluctant adopters, and tech integration frameworks. The NEFEC CONNECT: Digital Support Colleagues will meet for another face-to-face session on December 7
