The Rainbow Fish Musical

The small-cast version of The Rainbow Fish Musical has a running time of 60 minutes and is written for a cast of 5 to 9 actors. Developed by the talented Austin Zumbro for the Bay Area Children's Theatre, this musical charmed over 5,000 young audience members in its premier production. Ideal for touring or for TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) productions, this show was written specifically for high schools, colleges, and children's and community theatres to perform for children and their families.

The large-cast version is essentially the same show, so it also has a running time of 60 minutes, but it is expanded to have a cast of 15 to 30 (or more!) actors. The sophistication of the songs makes it much more than a typical children's show, yet elementary and middle school performers will appreciate that the music has been somewhat simplified from the small-cast version, with slightly slower tempos and narrower vocal ranges to help singers sound their best. Almost all the songs have plenty of room for large choruses, making it a fun show even with a huge cast!

From The Rainbow Fish website:  "Rainbow Fish is the most beautiful fish in the ocean, his scales shimmering the colors of a rainbow. When the other fish see him, they want shimmering scales, too, but Rainbow Fish keeps the beautiful scales to himself. His choice not to share soon makes Rainbow Fish a lonely fish. He discovers, in the end, that in sharing his scales, not only does Rainbow Fish bring a smile to others, but he feels happy as well."
