FAITH HEROES
It does not take faith to believe your bills will get paid when you have a wallet full of money. It is when that wallet is near empty that faith is put to the test.
In Hebrews chapter 11, which is called the faith chapter, there are many examples of faith by those that never thought of themselves as being heroes of the faith. Let us look at some of those heroes.
The first person of faith is God himself. He made the worlds by his words. They were not made from what already existed. He spoke everything into existence. This is how powerful words are. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” God’s words brought life and so do ours, or they bring death if we do not speak words of life.
The next hero of faith is Abel. God had given instructions for the sacrifice. It was to include blood. Abel gave a better sacrifice than his brother Cain because it was an animal. Its’ blood was shed, and God was pleased. Cain brought vegetables, which were not an acceptable sacrifice. Unfortunately, he did not repent. He ended up hating his brother because God was pleased with Abel and not with himself. That hatred led Cain to the murdering of his brother. This shows us how clear God wants us to follow instructions and what can happen when we “do it our way.”
Another hero was Enoch. Scripture tells us that he “walked with God and was not.” This shows us that the closer we get to God and His will the better off we are. For Enoch, he was translated (taken) to heaven. What a walk he had. It is a lesson for us for sure.
Another hero was Noah. God warned him of what was to come and because he listened, he saved himself and seven other members of his family. He had never seen rain, or flooding, but He trusted God without seeing, and obeyed by building the ark. Our obedience can bring protection to our loved ones like it did Noah.
Another hero was Sara. She had gone beyond the ability to conceive a child, but God gave her the promise and it came to pass. Like Sara, many of us think that it is too late for God to intervene in our lives, but it is never too late with God.
There are many other heroes of the faith, but one thing that they had in common is that they believed when there was no reason to believe. They trusted God. They had hope in the unseen realm of God when there was no way in the natural to have hope. That is what faith does. It causes us to believe God over our circumstances. Do not let the things we see in the natural determine the things that we see in the spirit.
