THE LIFE OF MOSES – LESSON 18

PHARAOH OFFERS A COMPROMISE

After the seventh plague of hailstones mingled with fire, Moses was again sent by God to Pharaoh (Exodus 10:1-20). Moses told him that these judgments of plagues were signs that Jehovah was the true God, and this was to be rehearsed in the ears of Pharaoh’s lineage generationally.

Moses rebuked him, asking in verse 3, “How long will you refuse to humble yourself before [Jehovah]?” (NKJV). Moses told the king that his refusal would bring hoards of locusts to eat anything green that remained from the hailstorm.

Pharaoh’s servants begged him to relent. They were already convinced about Jehovah. It is reasonably safe to assume the entire Egyptian population also understood this by now, as evidenced when they voluntarily yielded up all their goods when Israel departed at the Passover which was yet to come.

Pharaoh asked Moses who he intended to take to the wilderness for the feast to Jehovah. Moses replied “everybody, young and old, plus our flocks” (my paraphrase).   Pharaoh tried to negotiate a compromise to let only the grown men go.

Pharaoh said in verses 10-11 (NIV), “The LORD be with you [i.e., god help you] if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil [to not return]. No! Have only the [grown] men go…” He was not about to risk losing his slave labor which numbered into hundreds of thousands of men.

The Amplified Version tells it well (Ex. 10:10-11). Pharaoh’s reply to Moses was “The LORD be with you [to help you], if I ever let you go with your children [because you will never return]! Go now, you who are men [without your families] and serve the LORD, if that is what you want.”

Moses and Aaron were then forcibly driven out from the king’s presence by his guards.

Sorry, Pharaoh! God does not compromise His plans according to the desires or demands of man. Folks, have we ever tried to bargain with God, especially when His word is very clear on a matter? Sometimes we try to force our way or our desires even if Holy Spirit or the written word (rhema or logos) indicates otherwise. Wisdom says we should yield and choose to subject ourselves to the better path or to His revealed plan. To “have it your way” leads to an unsatisfactory result.

DILIGENCE

In the book of Hebrews, it tells us that God rewards those that diligently seek him. Jeremiah also says you will find God if you search for Him with your whole heart. Many don’t believe in God, and until they search for Him, they won’t find Him.

Diligence is defined as careful and persistent work or effort. These scriptures simply mean you keep seeking until you find the one that has the answers. It means conscientious, thoroughness, steadfastness. It means that you don’t quit.

Life is full of tests and trials my friends. It has been that way since the beginning. God could have come into the garden when Satan tempted Eve and driven him out of the garden, but God doesn’t work that way. He does not want to pull our strings like puppets and make us jump as he pulls. He wants us to learn his will through studying His word. It doesn’t come easy, and many don’t know where to begin.

I suggest you start with a chapter from the New Testament and a chapter from the Old Testament Daily. Write down those things that mean something to you so you can go back to them later. Reading the scriptures feeds your spirit being and causes it to become stronger.

Prayer is also important. Prayer is simply talking to God and letting Him know what is on your mind. He wants this more than you can imagine. He wants to communicate with his children.

God wants to reward us when we purposely take time to seek Him. If you have ever been in love, you will remember that you wanted to spend time with that person. You wanted to study their face and expressions. You wanted to know everything about them. You desired to be with them more than anyone else. This is how it is with God. He loves us more than anyone else could. He wants to spend time with us, lavishing his love on us.

Many have been taught that God has a big stick and will beat us up for failing. That is not the God of the Bible. Yes, there is discipline when we sin, but it is always given to bring us back to him—not push us away from Him.

I guarantee the more you spend time with God, the more you will want to spend time with him. He is the only one that will never leave you. He is the only one that will never forsake you. If he has a refrigerator, your picture would be there. He has a great plan for you, but you will have to spend time with Him to find out what it is. If you haven’t been doing this, don’t put it off. Life is so much sweeter when you spend time with the one that loves you.

PROPHETIC WORD

Just as Jesus stood at the graveside of Lazarus and wept he weeps over those that see their vision as having died and without hope. He would say unto you that unless a corn of wheat would fall into the ground and die that it remains alone, but in the dying process much life will come forth. He would say, Vision come forth, for this is your hour for it to rise up and come forth. He would say unloose the graveclothes from this vision and let the life flow from it, for this is the hour for those visions that have died to surely come forth and bring forth much fruit. You have labored hard, and it would seem that all you have put your hand to has gone through your fingers as sand in an hourglass, but the Lord would say that it is not the time to perceive it as being dead. It is not the hour to look at the vision and lose hope. It is not the hour to cast away your confidence. For this is the hour to let that which was dead burst forth from the grave and the grave clothes and have the light of my glory upon it. The Lord would say rise up and come forth vision and accomplish what I have called you to be in this hour. For surely the time is here for the resurrection power to come upon your vision and it shall not be held back. It shall not be held back. It shall come forth in newness of life. It shall come forth and be what I have purposed it to be. Do not look at the circumstances around you my children for they would delay the resurrection. Do not look at what is in your hand to bring forth the vision. For it is not by your hand that it would come forth. It is by my power and my life-giving breath that life will come forth from the grave of dead things. Surely this is the hour for your vision to be brought to life saith the Lord.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

It’s time that folks stop their whining, wishing, harping, hoping, doubting and pouting; And start rejoicing, singing, shouting, praying, believing, receiving and DOING! Yes, it’s past time to get your praise on...Even in the midst of whatever you may find yourself going through. We can always count on this one thing...God WILL fix it...IF we His children would just quit the moaning, groaning, complaining, refraining, doubting and pouting; And by faith start to praying, praising, believing and receiving. So go ahead and start praising God through these storms...For He WILL outlast whatever storm, trial or difficult place you may be going through now…Or will go through in the days that lie ahead…And that’s a fact.
