IMAGINATIONS RUNNING WILD
I have always had a vivid imagination. I am sure it is part of being a “seer” for the Lord. I would see faces in clouds, and trees and always have had vivid dreams. Sometimes that imagination would run wild. I remember when I had my first child that my husband would often go out of town on business. He was not good about getting back when he said he would. Often, if he was late, I pictured him in an accident or dead on the side of the road. I would work myself up into a frenzy. It was only when he came through the door that I realized it was just my imagination. I was being controlled by fear that worked in my imagination.
Imaginations can bring creativity, but they can also bring fear. In the season that we are in many person’s imaginations are running wild. Imaginations of what if this or that were to happen. What if we get attacked? What if we don’t have enough food? What if I get sick? What if I lose my job or income? Some are legitimate questions, but we must believe that God will provide no matter what. We must think on his promises and not the problems.
God deals with imaginations in II Corinthians 10:3-5. Paul lets the readers know, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (fleshly, like guns etc.,) but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds) Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
First of all, the battle takes place in the mind. This is where these thoughts come from, planted by Satan. He peppers our minds with thoughts to try to bring us into fear. We combat those thoughts by making a decision to NOT THINK ON THEM. We must cast them out and tell the devil NO! We literally must take those thoughts or imaginations captive. We do not allow them to control us.
As for me, I didn’t know how to trust my husband to God. I hadn’t learned how to pray for his safe journey and return. I didn’t realize I was being controlled by the lies of the enemy. Once I learned these concepts then things changed. I prayed the promises instead of fixating on the problem. This is what each of us must do in this season with all the unknowns that are being thrown at us.
Satan may say “what if?” and we answer it with the word of God. Remember, for every problem there is a promise. We cannot let our imaginations run wild or they will torment us, just like they tormented me before I learned what to do about them. We must believe that God has a good plan for each of us and He will bring that good plan to pass no matter what we face! Don’t imagine anything else!
