A TIME TO KEEP SILENT AND A TIME TO SPEAK
On your journey with the Lord, you will find that there are times that you must speak the truth about a situation whether anyone else does or not. It may not be easy to be the only one that stands for truth, but we are called to be watchmen, and we must warn others when they are in the wrong, or in sin.
Ezekiel was told this very thing, and warned by God that if he did not warn the people of Israel that judgment was coming, God would require the blood of those judged at Ezekiel’s hand. [Ezekiel 33:1-9]
When we are put in this position, we do not broadcast the warning to everyone. We do not use social media, or gang up on a person. We go one on one and warn the person individually. We do this to protect them and ourselves. Our motivation is not to destroy that person, but to reconcile them back to God, causing them to turn from sin.
Then there will be times that we are told a truth by God, but are also told to “keep the lips zipped.” Just because we know something about a situation does not mean we are to tell anyone about it. The revelation of the truth is given to us to pray for a person, a group, or a nation without making it public. Again, the prayer is to bring a person, group, or nation back to God.
Whatever the case may be, whether to speak or remain silent, we never do it for self-glory. Everything that we do must be motivated by love with the sole purpose of bringing people back to God, and seeing them reconciled.
Ecclesiastes 3:3b says, “…a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” You determine which one is right by spending time with God before you take any action. God will show you what to do.
