THE INCORRUPTIBLE SEED
_______________
If you have ever planted a seed, then you know a little about how things grow, it starts with a seed. God called seed into being in Genesis 1:11-12 where it says, “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 and the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.” God saw that the seed was good, and it reproduced, yielding fruit.
In Genesis 1:28 when God created male and female that were made in His image, He said, “…God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
In Genesis 3:15 after Satan tempted Eve and she and Adam sinned, God spoke to Satan and said, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between THY SEED and HER SEED; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” When Satan came on the scene, his motivation was to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Satan wanted to destroy the seed of mankind, because he knew if he did that there would be no Messiah, no lamb slain to take away the sin of the world.
Because of the fall of mankind, man’s “seed” became corrupted with sin and would die, but God did not leave it at that. When Jesus came, lived, died on the cross, and rose from the dead, he brought a new seed. He was the firstfruits (1 Cor. 15:20-23) and brought forth a new “seed” that was incorruptible. That seed would never die.
In 1 Peter 1:23 we learn that this seed that God plants in our hearts at salvation is incorruptible. It can NEVER die! It says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, (the old sinful nature) but incorruptible, (the born-again nature) by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
Unlike natural seed that can die, the new nature, born of incorruptible seed, can never die, because it has the life of God in it! Now it is up to us to let our “old seed nature” die or be crucified, so our new nature controls us.
Galatians 5:24 says, “And they that are Christ’s (those born again by the Seed of God) have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” As long as we live in this earthly “temple” made of flesh there will always be two natures, or two seeds. We must not let our old sin nature dictate to us. We must choose daily to put that sinful seed nature under the born-again nature and let the incorruptible seed nature control our lives. Yes, it is incorruptible, but we must make the choice which nature we serve.
