Decisions
The average person makes 35,000 decisions every day. Daunting!
Everything from swallowing food to impactful major life-changing decisions.
The first time I saw Dennis, I decided I wanted to marry that boy. We were 16 and he very serious about his studies. I did did know, he was thinking the same about me. Two life-changing decisions that would change our lives forever.
Then there are insignificant decisions like should I get out of bed now, get angry about the slightest thing. How should I display that anger without causing harm? On and on and on - one decision every two seconds we are awake.
Hopefully, God has made an impact on how we come to those decisions.
Peter declared he would follow Christ anywhere, but the same night, he denied knowing Him three times. We will never know what Jesus wrote in the sand to cause the Pharisees to leave one by one after challenging Him to stone a woman caught in adultery. Written in the Mosiac law in Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 22:21, it was their trick. The sand blew away, and the Pharisees high-tailed it one by one. He did not come to judge at THAT TIME. That woman followed Him to His death and resurrection. Her decision at that moment changed her eternity.
Of course, other things affect our decisions as well as the Holy Spirit who lives in us. The way our bodies feel. Pain? The hand life has dealt us, Prodigal Children, or Financial difficulties. I have lost the ability to drive my car with the meds I am on. You would think I lost my legs the way it affects me at times. And, watching people we love fade away in their final years. Things we all experience.
In light of God's Word, which is not always the first thing we think of, or The Holy Spirit tapping on our soul, we go right to the flesh in our way of thinking and act exactly like Peter.
James wote 1:1, "Consider it all joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseveance Must Finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything!" That, my friend, is what we want and need, but oh, so hard! What a different way of looking at our trials, while many preach, "With God, you will have no trials," God's word, however, gives us the purpose we do.
how me a believer in the Bible who did not have major trials, especially towards the end of an age of blessings. Jesus Himself, mentioned in John16:33, "In the world you will have tribulation, but BE OF GOOD CHEER, I have overcome the world!"
Good cheer is hard to come by when tribulation presses hard on our daily living. God, help us ALL as we get closer to your return! Every single one of us needs Your love-abiding help!
My husband says, "I just want you to be happy! " Sometimes it is hard, but I am praying for the joy of the Lord to overtake the problems I face today. Todays will end, and we will be with Him forever!
I want to finish with something I wrote in my Bible margins after reading Peter. Don't know when:
Pilgrims in the Path of Truth
The truth of God explained our lives.
The grace of God fulfilled our lives.
Forgiveness renewed our lives.
And the Love of God blesses our lives.
May our multitude of decisions mirror just that.
