Dear Friends of the Aiken County Public Library,
On behalf of the Friends’ Board and Finance Committee, we sincerely hope you and your loved ones are remaining safe during this unprecedented public health crisis. We recognize the financial and emotional impact COVID-19 has had on our community, including the strain put on the fundraising ability of our community service organizations.
We would like to share with you the Friends’ fundraising approach during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Last March, when we were just a few months into our Capital Campaign to raise funds for the library renovation, the stock market began a precipitous decline and unemployment was skyrocketing. The Board and Finance Committee decided to suspend the Capital Campaign until the community was in better shape emotionally and financially to participate. Because of COVID-19, we felt those community programs providing essential services (food, shelter, and medical services) should be given priority. We will reassess the resumption of our Capital Campaign in early 2021.
However, as we indicated in our last letter, Phase 2 of the renovation will begin in the next month so the renovation continues as planned.
The same principle holds true for our 2021 Annual Membership Solicitation Campaign about which you will soon receive information. Please support those organizations you deem important to providing essential services to our community. After that, if you have the means and desire to renew your Friends’ membership, we will be most grateful.
The Friends and the Aiken Library have been an integral part of our community for a long time and will continue to be long after the crisis has passed.
