Don’t Miss These Calls:

Protecting Medicaid Funding

Case Managers from the Case Management Agencies (including A and I Avenues, Rocky Mountain Human Services and Jeffco Human Services) must have contact with the people on their caseload quarterly. People on Medicaid’s DD waiver and Supported Living Services waiver must have contact with their case manager to maintain their funding and services.

The contact includes visits with the person in their home, day program or job site. It is imperative that the visits take place. Colorado Department oof HealthCare Policy and Finance is keeping a close eye to make certain the visits are happening.

The case managers often contact the host home provider or family care giver or person receiving services directly to arrange these visits. FRIENDS has been made aware that if the case manager is not able to set up the visits it can jeopardize Medicaid funding. We have heard of several situations where the host home provider did not recognize the phone number of the case manager, so they did not answer the phone and the person in their home had their funding stopped.

Please make sure you answer the phone/check messages so that you do not miss these important phone calls.

Building for the Future:

Renovations Underway

For the past year and a half, we have been working hard to raise funds to expand our program and office space. While we had to cut back our budget, we are excited to announce that we have now raised enough to begin the project. Now, it is time to start the construction process to renovate part of the basement for added program space. We will also be renovating space on the second floor for more staff offices. Both projects will be completed simultaneously.

On September 2, Bunn and Sons Customer Builders will start both projects. The goal is to have construction completed by mid-November. They have planned to make the process as painless as possible for everyone at FRIENDS. The construction workers will be working from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. They will enter the building using the stairs and door leading directly to the basement. They will access the second floor using the exterior steps. None of the workers will be in the Day Program area.

Please note:

  • The parking space near the west end of the building and parking space on the south side of the parking lot directly across and near the dumpsters will be used by the contractors.
  • Contractors will also park on the street (anywhere but in front of the building) unless they have equipment/supplies to unload. They will unload their equipment/supplies quickly and move their vehicles. FRIENDS has asked that they unload before the start of the Day Program.
  • FRIENDS has informed Access A Ride and Trans Dev of the construction so they can adjust their drop off location as needed.
  • For those that transport their participant to day program and need a closer wheelchair accessible space, you should be able to drop off in the parking lot as you typically do.
  • The day program staff will be outside to help people with safely getting on and off their transportation in the morning and afternoon.

We appreciate everyone’s flexibility during our construction and look forward to showing you our newly renovated areas.

Day Program Reward Store

Our Reward Store is a longtime favorite in the Day Program! Every month, Participants use tickets they’ve earned from participation in daily activities to 'purchase' items from the store. Some items are more popular than others, which means our stock can run low. How can you help keep our Reward Store fully stocked and serving Participants? You can donate items at any time! We are currently looking for the following popular items:

  • DVDs, CDs
  • Word search books
  • Colorado sports team apparel
  • Adult coloring books
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, watercolors, etc.)
  • Disney items

Thank you for helping us keep this beloved resource available for our Participants!
