“Use wherever you need it most.”
|
This week, a $50,000 check showed up in APC’s mailbox accompanied by a note that said, “Use wherever you need it most.”
In a week unusually full of significant compounding news and activities, that little note is for me the highlight.
Why? Well, I spend about half my time looking under rocks for hidden piles of money to support APC’s work (and also asking folks like you to invest), but I didn’t directly ask for this one. This member had confidence both that the work she sees us doing is valuable and that we’d apply her gift in the right places: “wherever you need it most.”
| |
| |
|
So: Thank you, Lisa Everett Andersen (at left) of O’Brien Pharmacy in Topeka, Kansas. We’ve applied half of your gift to OneFund, which fuels our advocacy work, and the other half to the “Compounding the Joy of Living Campaign” to help prevent FDA restrictions on compounded hormones and to advance your profession.
|
And what about that other significant news of the week?
Well for one, APC was prominently featured in the news. STAT published an opinion piece I wrote urging Congress to include provisions of HR167, our “urgent use” legislation, in any bill to address drug supply chain dysfunction. And The New York Times published as accurate a piece on semaglutide compounding as I’ve seen (though it’s not perfect), and APC’s Board Chair-Elect Tenille Davis and I are quoted in it.
And for another, this week more than 80 compounders converged on Washington, DC for PCCA’s ACT Conference, where they conducted more than 130 visits with members of Congress. The message? Same as that of the call to action APC sent you Tuesday morning: Compounders can help alleviate interruptions in the drug supply chain. Attendees also urged elected official to sign a congressional letter to FDA urging the agency to consider a broad swath of input and evidence related to compounded hormone therapy. See a few photos from those visits below. And thanks to our partner PCCA for its leadership in advocating for your compounding patients and business.
We share more news below. Use it where you need it most.

|
At its meeting this week in Alexandria, the APC Board of Directors unanimously elected Michelle Moser, Revelation Pharma/Makers Compounding Pharmacy, Mount Vernon, WA as Board Vice President for 2024. Under the APC bylaws, she will ascend to the board chairmanship in three years.
Moser is a 35-year pharmacy veteran, a 2022 APC Fellow, and has served on the APC Board of Directors since 2021. She is the 2023 vice chair of APC’s education committee and a regular presenter at our programs and events.

Under bylaws amendments that took effect January 1, responsibility for electing APC officers is shifted from the membership, as was formerly the case, to the Board of Directors. Henceforth, the Board will elect its own officers from the board itself.

APC issues statement on shortage-drug compounding and semaglutide
|
|
Earlier this week, APC released an extensive statement on compounding copies of FDA approved drugs when those drugs are in shortage. The statement focuses in particular on semaglutide.
“This statement represents our understanding of the regulatory framework regarding compounding ‘essentially a copy’ of an FDA-approved drug when that drug is listed as ‘currently in shortage’ on the FDA drug shortage website,” said APC Chief Executive Officer Scott Brunner.
| |
Brunner said the statement also addresses the issue of compounding drugs containing semaglutide active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) during this period when the FDA-approved drugs containing that API are listed as “currently in shortage” on the FDA drug shortage website.
