FRWA got some new SWAG. The new FRWA vests will be put to good use during hurricane season and also help keep our circuit riders visible as they assist utilities around the state.

The Florida Forests and Water Forum brings together partners from across the state to discuss the connection between healthy, managed forests and clean, reliable drinking water. You can join forest landowners, utilities, conservation groups, state agencies, and others as they plan for a safe, secure future for all Floridians.

At the forum you will learn about some of the history of the forest, its purpose, and some of the ongoing projects taking place on site. Topics will include forest genetics, prescribed fire regimes, forest carbon and water dynamics, forest hydrology, forest products, and more.

WateReuse bestows annual Awards for Excellence-The WateReuse Association (WateReuse) recently announced its annual Awards for Excellence recipients at the 2025 WateReuse Symposium in Tampa, Florida, March 16-19. Winners included individuals, initiatives and facilities driving increased knowledge, awareness and adoption of water reuse practices and technologies. more

EPA Releases Seventh Set of UCMR 5 Data-On March 11, EPA released its seventh set of national drinking water data collected under the fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) for a total of 30 chemical contaminants (29 PFAS and lithium). UCMR 5 was published on December 27, 2021, and large, midsize, and a nationally representative sample of small public water systems have been collecting data on these 30 chemical contaminants since January 1, 2023. more

March 17, 1909: Drinking water chlorination begun at Poughkeepsie, New York. Chlorine was tested at the Poughkeepsie, New York filter plant in early February 1909 but the application of chlorine on a permanent basis at Poughkeepsie did not begin until March 17, 1909. Therefore, the Poughkeepsie water supply was the third example of chlorine disinfection in the U.S. and the first time that chlorine was used as an adjunct to slow sand filtration. George C. Whipple suggested the third application of chlorine to a water supply in a report to the City. As noted in The Chlorine Revolution: Water Disinfection and the Fight to Save Lives, Whipple was on the opposite side from Dr. John L. Leal in the two Jersey City trials. Poughkeepsie, NY is a medium-sized city that is located on the Hudson River about 70 miles north of New York City.



Whipple recommended that the coagulant preceding the slow sand filter at Poughkeepsie be replaced with chloride of lime, which began as a test on February 1, 1909. On March 17, 1909, continuous chlorination was begun using a permanent chemical feeding apparatus.
