Updates on Our Current Efforts
Strategic Planning for After-Hour Pantry|Mobile Food Distribution
Due to restrictions with COVID, the need for social distancing, and in an effort to address barriers to transportation, three targeted projects were piloted in December of 2020 in the community to understand the feasibility of an after-hour food pantry and the need for mobile distribution of food and hot meals. Please join the Archuleta Food System|Food Equity Coalition via Zoom on Thursday, 2/25 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm with partners and community members to contribute to a strategic plan for an after hour food pantry and the mobile distribution of food across Archuleta County.  Please email us at [email protected] for the zoom link.
Updates on PB Projects
Heritage Cooking Classes - The project leaders are working hard on rolling out this program, with classes set to begin on March 13. Twelve families will participate in learning about cooking heritage foods with a healthy twist. Our local dietitian reviewed the recipes and commented on the extensive and diverse fresh produce ingredients. The class will run for three Saturdays and use some locally grown produce. The project leads are ready and prepared to support learning in both English and Spanish. These sessions will serve as a pilot to inform expansion and scaling.

Backpack Program - Stay Tuned as we support the project lead with the logistics - delivering bags of food for Jicarilla Apache students attending Archuleta School District - a step toward alleviating hunger.

Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership - Hooray for our partners - GGP now has grow lights and is seeing an increase in the food production! Carrots, beets, chard and soon to see spinach are making their way to the food pantry clients.

Pagosa Online Farmers Market - We are ready and eager to welcome new and returning vendors! Calling all vendors, please register here to take advantage of this awesome online resource to increase market access for local and regional food.

Middle School Snack Program - The Food Coalition is supporting the United Methodist Women who are working closely with the Pagosa Middle School to offer snacks to students who experience long time periods between meals. The Middle School is now offering 425 snack items per week through the classrooms to the students.
Networking with Colorado Dietitians
Some of us from the Food Coalition who are also members of the Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (CAND) have created a space with CAND members to engage in learning about ways to advance nutritional health equity across Colorado with a focus on overcoming barriers to access to nutritional services.
