A New School Year/Church Year Begins Soon. . .
God, in His matchless grace, has given us much favor this summer. Camps, Mission Trips, Baptisms, New Members, Backyard Bible Clubs, the Progress of the re-model in the sanctuary, the calling of a Minister of Music, and so much more would easily give evidence of God's goodness to us. We have experienced fruitfulness in our summer weeks of ministry, and for this we are truly grateful. Yet, it is time to turn the page and set our focus on the beginning of a new school year and church year! This is my FAVORITE season of the church life cycle-the fall months. It's a joy to start fresh and have everyone back from vacations, for starters.
Here are a few items to keep in mind as we begin anew: We put a premium effort to teach people the Bible. First, many of our Bible Fellowship classes will participate in
promotion Sunday on August 19. Please note that we will soon be hosting a
Bible Fellowship leaders training on Sunday, September 30, to encourage and inspire our workers to pursue excellence in our Bible Fellowship ministry. Additionally, our
PBJ Groups will gather again beginning
Sunday, September 9. These home groups will meet
5 times in the fall
(September 9, 23, October 14, 28, and November 11) from 5:30-7:00 p.m. You recall that PBJ stands for Prayer-Bible Study-Joy of being together. Please watch our worship bulletins for additional details in the weeks ahead. The PBJ Gatherings will be the extent of our Sunday night schedule of ministry for the foreseeable future. These groups will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the months in the fall with the exception of November 25 (LCT construction day) and the month of December. I would encourage you to consider seriously being a part of one of these PBJ groups.
Also, this fall (beginning September 9), I plan to launch a
new series of messages examining closely the book of Galatians. This epistle, written by Paul, is a must hear letter for the church today. We must guard the gospel-the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ-with a renewed fervor and faithfulness. This series of sermons will be of much value to Field Street Baptist Church as we seek to minister thoughtfully to and in a world that has some very different philosophies about religion, spirituality, salvation, and Jesus. May God use this series to strengthen His church and increase our awe and worship of Jesus Christ.
Finally, I would like to invite our men to join us this fall on Tuesday mornings at 6:30 a.m. for
R.U.T. (Reliable-Unswerving-Trustworthy) Men's Bible Study. We are currently studying through 1 Timothy. We have already studied 1 Corinthians, The Attributes of God, noted leaders in the bible, and now 1 Timothy. Please consider joining with other men to study a portion of Scripture, enjoy good fellowship, times of prayer, and coffee and donuts. You will be out the door easily before 7:30 a.m. Join us, men!
Upcoming sermon titles: August 5--"Time Alone with God" August 12--"A Unifying, Strategic Vision" August 19--"7 Benefits of Giving Back to God" August 26--"The Lord's Day Gathering"
With much affection,
John Hall, Pastor

Music Ministry
Choir Rehearsal Resumes
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sing in the choir? Do you have a heart for worship? The Field Street Choir is looking for more voices to add to our group this year so we can sing some new music. We would love to have you in the choir regardless of your singing experience and no audition is necessary.
August 8, 15 & 22 we are on a "Summer Schedule" with rehearsal from 6:35-7:30 p.m.
Our normal Wednesday rehearsals begin on August 29 from 7:00-8:15 p.m. and we will have a kick-off party on August 29 for the Living Christmas Tree. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Orchestra in Worship
Do you play a musical instrument? We are looking for band and orchestra musicians to help make our worship experiences more diverse. It is our hope to start using this group in worship in late August. If you are interested, please contact [email protected] to schedule an audition.
Media Volunteers Needed
Have you noticed the new big screen picture and larger stage? We are looking for many more media, sound, camera, and lighting volunteers to help with our brand new user-friendly video/audio equipment. It takes around ten media volunteers every week to facilitate a worship service and we are planning to expand in the future. Our hope is to build a team large enough so you would only be serving around 1-2 times per month. Also, we are planning to host a training event in August. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Children's Ministry
It's hard to believe that summer is quickly drawing to a close. Thank you, Church Family, for your support of all our summer activities including Kids' Camp, Vacation Bible School, and our Backyard Bible Clubs. God has been so faithful in bringing children and their families into our paths and they are learning about Christ as a result! God is so good!

Backyard Bible Club--Bright Beginnings |
This summer, FSBC hosted 4 Backyard Bible Clubs throughout Cleburne including Cimarron Springs Apartments, Cobblestone Village Apartments, Gateway Learning Center and Bright Beginnings. It was a fruitful summer and we are so grateful for the opportunity to share the Gospel in our community.
Our third annual 1st Grade Breakfast will be held on Sunday, August 19, at 8:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center. This breakfast is a special event for our incoming 1st graders as they promote from the preschool ministry to the children's ministry. This will be a special time for these children and their families as we celebrate this milestone.
Promotion Sunday will be on Sunday, August 19, for all preschool, children, and youth classes.
All preteens are invited to join us for our annual Preteen Retreat on August 24-25 at Rick and Anne Deem's home. The purpose of this retreat is to build a team of 5th & 6th graders who will bond and grow together as a group as they ultimately grow closer to our Lord and Savior. We will depart from the church at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24. There is no cost to attend.

Student Ministry
As we wrap up the summer, I reflect on a truly great one. We had an incredible camp experience at M3 Zephyr where we saw one saved and one surrender to the call to vocational ministry. Our students were given many opportunities for missions during the summer months through Backyard Bible Clubs as well as our Mission Lab trip and they delivered. Please join us in prayer for our students as the school year begins. Pray they continue to take ownership of their faith, maintain the desire for missions, and that we grow as a ministry!
ADOPT-A-SENIOR
Adopt-a-Senior is your opportunity to continue an
investment in our graduating seniors as they head off to college. Your Bible Fellowship class may select one of our 2018 graduating seniors to "adopt." This will simply mean you are committing to following up with them during their first year away. Follow up can include, but is not limited to, letters of encouragement, sending gift cards, and prayer. If you would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity, contact the church office for our list of 2018 seniors.
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Wednesday, August 15, we will host American Ninja Warrior contestant Jared Greer of Overcoming Obstacles Ministries. We need volunteers for this event! If you would like to find out how you can help out, please contact the office.
In an effort to reach more unchurched students in our community, I would love to begin a van route to pick up students in need of a ride on Wednesday nights. If this is an area you would be interested in serving, please contact the church office.
I am so excited for the school year to begin and kick-off what I truly expect to be another fruitful year of ministry! appreciate your ongoing prayers and support.
More information on each event, as well as registration and
payment, can be found on our church website.

Senior Adult Ministry HARD TO BELIEVE. . . but our "fall schedule" is about to begin. 'JOYFUL SOUND" and "YOUNG AT HEART" will share the same starting date: Tuesday, September 11. Joyful Sound begins at 9:30 a.m. in the choir room. We have ordered some wonderful music for the fall and winter. I'm excited about getting started again. Young at Heart will begin at 10:45 in the Family Life Center with a time of fellowship and "grabbing your desserts." The program will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by another great meal at 11:45 a.m. Can't wait! MABS (Monday Afternoon Bible Study) will begin on Monday afternoon, September 10. I have changed my plans for this first study. It will be a five-week study under the title: "A Man Called Peter." No, this is not a study focused on the life of Peter Marshall and the 1955 movie by that name, but a verse-by-verse study focused on the Apostle Peter as he writes his second letter to the early churches. This is going to be a great and very applicable study. IN ADDITION. . .to our regular meetings in September and October, we have a very special program planned for our Holiday Banquet on Tuesday night, November 20. For the last couple of years, we have made this into a "Community Thanksgiving Service" by inviting several churches to join us for the meal and the service. That's our plan for this year as well, but with the addition of some special guests. Just wait and see! --John Glover Return to top of page |
