Summer often evokes feelings of relaxed lifestyles and extended freedom as we soak up the sun, enjoy longer days, and relish time away from school and more rigid schedules.
While we spend our days outdoors, at gatherings with friends or family, or at larger venues for concerts or sporting events, it's important to recognize that many people suffer from the pressures of social expectations, which can negatively impact their mental wellbeing.
In addition, summer weather can tax our bodies physically by causing dehydration and lack of sleep, which can also negatively impact our mental wellbeing. To support this, a 2018 study by the American Physiological Society found that people are more likely to have higher levels of stress hormones in summer than in winter.
At FSG, we encourage you to increase your self-awareness and take the necessary steps toward maintaining your mental wellbeing this summer, recognizing that emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual factors are all building blocks to strong mental wellbeing.
