FIREFIGHTERS AND THEIR INCREASED RISK OF

BLADDER CANCER

Bladder cancer is the nation’s seventh most common form of cancer with more than 81,000 new cases and over 17,000 deaths each year. This is especially important for firefighters, as firefighters have an increased risk of bladder cancer than non-firefighters. What follows are ten resources related to bladder cancer specifically geared toward firefighters and their increased risk.

(In the largest single study of U.S. career firefighters to date, Daniels and colleagues studied a pooled cohort of 29,993 firefighters from San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Chicago. They found that firefighters were 18% more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer as their first cancer than the general population.)
