50-Year Anniversary: Featuring 1982
|
|
FSU Law broke ground on a new law library facility in February of 1982. The new building was added to significantly increase the quantity and quality of the space available and to allow the library’s collections to be housed under one roof for the first time since the law school’s inception. Prior to the new building, collections were also found in faculty offices, law school classrooms, the library of the Florida Supreme Court, the State Library and Dodd Hall. Also in 1982, Paul Jess (’82), Kevin Monahan (’82) and Andrew Rock (’83) won the Moot Court National Administrative Law Moot Court Competition at the University of Dayton.

Alum Profile: Luis Then ('16) & Sarah Bailey ('16)

|
Captain (CPT) Luis Then (‘16) and First Lieutenant (1LT) Sarah Bailey (‘16) are commissioned officers in the United States Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. After graduating and passing the Florida Bar Examination, CPT Then and 1LT Bailey accepted commissions into the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, respectively. As Judge Advocates, CPT Then and 1LT Bailey are involved in a broad range of cases in military justice, civil and administrative law, contract and fiscal law, and international and operational law. Currently, they are training at the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course (JAOBC) at Fort Benning, Georgia, and at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Following JAOBC, 1LT Bailey will return to Tallahassee where her Army Reserve unit is located and will continue working for Dickens Reid PLLC. CPT Then will report to his first duty station at Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul, South Korea.

Student Profile: 3L Galen Flynn
|
|
Galen Flynn is a third-year student from Newburyport, Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. In May, he will graduate with the Business Law Certificate in addition to his J.D. Flynn has externed with Legal Services of North Florida’s Low Income Tax Clinic, where he helped clients be compliant with the IRS and gathered facts pertaining to clients’ financial holdings. He has also externed with the Leon County Attorney’s Office. In this role he served as an advisor to the Leon County Procurement Appeals Board on the constitutionality of its Small Business Enterprise program. He also drafted new language for the county’s nuisance abatement code. Last semester, Flynn externed at the Florida Department of Transportation’s Office of the General Counsel, where he created a master contract form that streamlined the application process for counties receiving funding for local transportation projects. Currently, he is working for the Florida Senate Committee on Commerce and Tourism, researching the possible implications of legislation being considered and reviewing the bill analyses of attorneys in the office. Flynn is interested in bankruptcy, land use law, workers’ compensation, tort law and business law. He is open to positions anywhere in Florida, but has a preference for Orlando and North Florida.
