4 th of July Reflections
As I sit down to write this it is the afternoon of the 2 nd of July and I’m already excited about this Thursday. The 4 th of July affords us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the price that has been paid, and continues to be paid, for our freedom as Americans. It’s also an opportunity to think about those things that make our nation the great place it is. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, to cook out and enjoy the fireworks. It’s especially great here in our community because of all the pride and support we feel for our nation, our men and women in uniform, our police, firemen, EMT’s and other first responders. We truly are proud to be Americans. 
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It’s difficult to think of another statement that so concisely sums up the core principles of what we believe in as Americans. The sentiments expressed in that single sentence from the Declaration of Independence have motivated ordinary Americans to accomplish great things and make tremendous sacrifices, all in an effort to make sure that future generations of Americans have the freedom to determine their own path. 
I am forever grateful to all those who have served our country and have been willing to give life to defend it. I’m grateful for our veterans as well as those who are defending our nation right now. I’m grateful every time I see a flag waving because it reminds me that I live in the greatest nation on the face of the earth. But I am most grateful for the grace God has shed upon this nation. God has abundantly blessed our country, sometimes in spite of ourselves. He allows this nation to enjoy the fruit of His blessings. May God never take His hand off the United States of America.
I pray that you have a wonderful time with family and friends. Just make sure to take a moment to pause and thank God for His goodness to you and this great country.

My name is Dustin Kennedy and I am extremely honored to serve as the new Youth Minister here at FUMC Brewton. I grew up in Jasper, Alabama and from an early age I knew my passion was to be a role model for kids. I attended the University of Montevallo where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science and a master’s degree in education. For the past four years I have used those degrees to teach and coach both middle and high school students in the Birmingham area.
After college, I started dating Katie Edge, who I would later learn was from a small town called Brewton. We were married in July of 2016 and welcomed our son Maxwell (Max) in September 2018. As our family has grown, we have decided a smaller community is the environment we want to raise our children in, which is how we find ourselves here in Brewton.
My goal for this youth group is to foster a nurturing environment where our FUMC students and students from the community can grow spiritually while also being valuable members of the community. I am eager to work alongside this church body to try and accomplish this task. Thank you again for the opportunity to work with the youth, and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us as a Church family.

VBS pre-registration is underway!  Mark your calendars for the week of July 14th-18 th . This years theme is “POWER UP- Raise Your Game” and promises to be a fun-filled week! Kids (Preschool-5 th grades) will be challenged to raise their game because knowing God and trusting in Jesus fills each of us with the Fruit of the Spirit! “God’s power has given us everything we need to live a godly life.” 2 Peter 1:3a, NIrV. Pick up registration forms in the church office, the handprint room, or send us a private message via email or Facebook! 
Church is seeking an energetic and strong Christian to lead its Children's Ministry. The qualified candidate will have some history working with children, preferably in the church.This position calls for approximately 20 hours per week. LIFE Group for Adults: A new Sunday evening study for adults is coming. Boundaries , by Henry Cloud and John Townsend, teaches us how to set proper boundaries in our lives by learning when to say yes and when to say no. The study will meet at 5:15 each Sunday beginning on August 11th. If you are interested please contact the church office soon, as the study will be limited to the first 15 adults to register.
