We want to keep you updated on the ongoing recovery of Scott Davis, our Organist and Music Director. At this time, he continues to be treated in the hospital. In the near future, we anticipate his transition out of the hospital to a rehab facility. Recovering from a brain injury can take quite awhile, so we anticipate that Scott will be away for an extended period of time. As there are significant updates, we will keep you informed. Thank you for your prayers and love notes to Scott—he takes great joy from them and from each of you. We will continue to collect cards on Sunday mornings, or you may mail them to the church office.

Safe Gatherings Certifications
|
Do you still need to be safety certified? If you're not already, but you want to work in ministry with children, youth, or vulnerable adults, then the answer is yes! This includes Sunday School, mission trips, care ministries, and chaperoning/driving. Parents of children and youth are highly encouraged to get certified. The church covers the cost, but our cost is going up 50% in January, so now's the time to do it. Visit our
Conference Safety webpage
to find out how, or contact Safety Policy Administrator Emily Buchanan at

Welcome Rev. Laura Merrill as Guest Preacher

On September 15, join us for worship as we hear the Word preached by Reverend Laura Merrill. Rev. Merrill is an ordained elder in the Rio Texas Conference. Having served churches throughout the conference, she is now appointed as the Assistant to the Bishop. In June, she was elected to lead the Rio Texas delegation to the 2020 General Conference in Minneapolis, MN. In addition, Rev. Merrill has a long-time FUMC connection: she is the granddaughter of beloved FUMC Associate Pastor, Bruno Schmidt, one of the two people for whom our Family Life Center is named.

September Mission Emphasis
|
Global Mission Fellows
In Michigan, Global Mission Fellows actively work with the local community to assess the needs and organize neighborhood gardens, to provide fruit and vegetables to food-insecure neighbors. In Zimbabwe, Global Mission Fellows partner with the community to coordinate, design, and monitor health programs, including maternal and child health, malaria prevention, and HIV/AIDS education. At First Church, we contribute during the month of September to make the life-changing work of young adult Global Mission Fellows possible. Gifts can be left at the altar rail, in the offering plate, or at the church office, marked "GM Fellows."
