TES Virtual Enamel Symposium - July 30-August 2, 2021
Here is the line-up for the Immersives (workshops) during The Enamelist Society, Inc. Virtual Enamel Symposium. These Immersives will run for two hours on Friday, July 30 and for an additional two hours on Monday, August 2, 2021. We have scheduled Immersives 1 and 2 concurrently in the 10:45 AM to 12:45 PM time slot, Immersives 3 and 4 from 1:45 PM to 3:45 PM and Immersives 5 and 6 from 4:45 PM to 6:45 PM (all times are eastern daylight). The reasoning for starting later in the day is to allow maximum participation by our members across the US, Canada and Mexico as well as allowing for some participation from other parts of the world.
Immersive 1 - Working with Liquid Enamels and Rust - Amanda Denison
Immersive 2 - Underpainting with P-3 on Silver - Sandra McEwen
Immersive 3 - Enamel Painting with China Paint - Mi-Sook Hur
Immersive 4 - Sgraffito and Pattern for Enamel - Tanya Crane
Immersive 5 - Pattern-Formed Enameled Vessels - Nash Quinn
Immersive 6 - Lines, Marks, and Stitches in Enamel - Jan Smith
TES is proud to announce our Keynote speaker for this summer’s online symposium – the very talented and accomplished Marilyn da Silva. Her presentation is titled “The Color of Nature: The Nature of Color.” Marilyn is well known for her sensitive - and sometimes even slightly surreal - visual essays on nature, which are often from the point of view of other living creatures. Primarily trained as a metalsmith, she has developed great skill with color. Although she uses gesso and colored pencil on her surfaces, she still grapples with issues of color, surface, image, composition and form, as do we all. Her long and interesting career as a fabricator and colorist in the service of art makes her an inspiration for all of us. Plus, she is a warm, generous intuitive person and a beloved mentor to a whole generation of artists and metalsmiths.
The committee is working on finalizing many of activities in a TES Conference that you have come to expect. We are completing the agenda, speakers, breakouts (50-minute demos) and jam sessions (2 hour make and take) for the weekend portion of the Enamel Symposium. The office expects to have a prospectus and registration form out to the TES membership and our enameling friends soon. Please stay tuned and we will be sending additional details and information.
