The Enamelist Society
- Auction Donation Letter from Pat Nelson
Dear Members of The Enamelist Society,
Once again, The Enamelist Society conference is rapidly approaching. The roster of workshop presenters, speakers, and events is just simply awesome. I cannot help myself, I must recap a few of the upcoming people and events. As you know, it has always been a point of pride that TES brings important enamelists from overseas to demonstrate and speak – we feel it is perhaps the only chance American enamelists will have to study with these legendary artists. This year, Gillie Hoyte Byrom, Aur
é
lie Guillaume, and Heejoo Kim will be bringing a bit of Great Britain, Canada and Korea to our gathering. Other presenters and speakers are just as renowned, and we are expecting a warm informative and inspiring keynote address from that icon of metalsmithing, Tim McCreight.
The juried exhibition and the juried student exhibition promise to be fabulous as usual. But perhaps the most significant fact about TES conferences is the human interaction. Conference attendees have opportunities to meet other enamelists and to bond over common cause. The occasions for sharing information, techniques, problems or, most important, mutual enthusiasms at TES conferences are legendary. In our age of social media and YouTube videos, we still need that human contact and the assurance that we have a tribe of like-minded friends.
Last month, I went to the conference site at the University of Oregon Eugene. Oh my…what a beautiful spot for our conference! Great speakers, life changing workshops, inspiring exhibitions - all in one of the most beautiful locations on the planet.
And once again WE NEED YOUR HELP! As we assemble the items for the auctions, we are a bit short. Those of you who have attended the auctions – you know what an evening of laughter and fun they are. Our skilled team of auctioneer/enamelists is professional yet oh so entertaining! For those of you who may be new to the conference, be prepared for a thoroughly delightful evening! AND we have a tool and equipment silent auction where many a legendary enamelist has found a bit of that legendary “Flame Red” or “Mikado” or a special book or trivet or any number of useful and sometimes hard to find goodies and delights.
So……if you are in possession of goodies and delights such as enamel, books, catalogues, tools, findings or anything else useful to your fellow enamelists, and are not using them, or are conducting a studio clean up, please consider giving those items a new life. Your fellow enamelists will thank you and, most important, you will be helping TES in its mission to support and educate enamelists, students, collectors and other folks interested in the field of enameling.
One final request…how about a piece of your work? A beautiful piece sitting wrapped in a box could be put to excellent use. Someone will buy it, love it, show it off and you will be helping your organization to go forward.
