" Janet Burgess was born in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. After completing her baccalaureate in Art and Spanish from Western Carolina University she moved to New York City where she earned her Master's Degree in painting and drawing from Columbia University. Ms. Burgess' credentials include being an artist-in-residence, gallery director, art teacher, juror and panelist. She was a finalist for the Millay Colony for the Arts and the Fulbright Grant. She has been Artist-in-Residence for the North Carolina Department of Youth Services, for the Sandhills Arts Council and at Toreki Colony of Artists in Hungary.

Most recently Ms. Burgess has been focusing on creating enamels and marketing them through show venues on on her website. Her pastel drawings have remained a major focus. She regularly exhibits them in juried group exhibitions, sometimes winning prizes!

Throughout her career she has maintained an active exhibition schedule presenting her work in the Unites States, Canada and Hungary in invitational and juried shows/solo and group exhibitions. Her work is included in the public collections of Western Carolina University, Sandhills Arts Council, the North Carolina State Department of Human Resources, the Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and the private Braun Collection in Budapest, Hungary.

Her professional affiliations have included artists' collectives, artists' societies and public art organizations."
