Join Us for Worship This Sunday!
Sunday, October 14 at 9 and 11 a.m.

Worship Leader:  Rev. Susan Milnor, Interim Senior Minister

Worship Associate: Rodney Lowe

"Acting from Faith"
At a series of critical moments in this nation's history, we are being called back to the most basic understanding of this country as a sanctuary for the values we also share in our faith tradition. How do we pursue the most important points of resistance - or even discern them - while acting out of our faith? A pre-election sermon, not about particular candidates, but about what is at stake in this moment.

Saturday, October 13 FUUSB Sanctuary City Potluck
and Coffeehouse: Join Us for Tasty Food, Good Company, and Sweet Autumn Music

The doings in D.C. make your head and heart ache,
And you yearn for an actual bird's tweet,
The temperatures drop and there's mist on the lake,
You give in and you turn on the heat.

Where might you go, for the warmth of community,
fellowship and, perhaps, even unity?
A warm meal, smiling faces, both old and new.
Is there such a place? Yep! At the UU!

It's our monthly potluck and coffeehouse,
This Saturday October thirteen.
Bring yourself, bring your kids, a friend, and your spouse.
You've not been? Let me now set the scene:

We start with a potluck, right about six.
Bring an entrée, a salad, a stew
You don't have to hassle, don't get in a fix,
Just bring a nice dish for a few.

You can sign up for the open mic
Share a story, a poem, or a song.
Or sit back and listen, if that's what you'd like.
And you always can just sing along.

All ages are welcome, all talents are relished,
There's really not much you must do.
It's pretty relaxed, I don't think I embellish.
What matters most: just bring you!

Where : FUUSB Parlors
Date : Saturday, October 13
Time : 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Bring : A favorite dish (hot en trees especially
encouraged), an instrument, a song, a poem, or a story, friends and family members, yourself! Dishes and silverware provided.
This month's theme:  "Sanctuary" (though performers should feel free to perform whatever they'd like)

Side With Love Apparel Orders
Zoe Hart

The Side With Love shipment has arrived. If you ordered a Side With Love shirt, sweatshirt, or hat, Justice and Outreach ministry volunteers will be downstairs in the Community Room after each service on  Sunday, October 14  to help you get your order.

Opportunity to Help with Andre's Ordination Celebration
Lynn Douglas

Please click the link below to sign up to help with the reception following Andre's Ordination service on Saturday, October 27.  This gathering will  be a warm, happy time to end a lovely day. Andre has a great love of cheese, so we're asking you to bring the cheese; we'll supply other foods. See you then!

Clock Winders Needed
Woody Fulton

Wanted: A few strong folks to share the weekly task of insuring Church Street knows what time it is. This involves winding a weight up about 30 feet or so using a hand crank. First, you will need to climb 50 or so steps to get to the winding level in the tower, and then put your arms, back and legs to work for about 25 turns of the crank. Proper technique is crucial, and when you are done you can rest assured that thousands of people will thank you by noticing what time it is without having to dig out their phone. Email  cranks@uusociety.org   if you are interested.

Tuesday Book Group at FUUSB
Barbara Doody

The Tuesday book group meets on the second Tuesday of the month from  12:00-1:30  p.m. in the Susan B. Anthony Room. Below is the list of books for the months ahead. We are always open to new readers!

November:
Black Boy by Richard Wright (memoir by the author)
December:
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
January:
The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey by Candice Millard

Help Wanted: YUUth Group Advisors!
Youth Advisors function as a team, upholding a balance of leadership between themselves and our high school aged youth, gradually handing over more responsibilities to the youth as they demonstrate their capabilities.

These volunteers, along with our staff Youth Ministry Coordinator, guide the youth through implementation of annual social justice activities and keep a gentle but sure hand on the "tiller" of the group, ensuring that it balances fun with depth and meaning of distinctly UU content.
Thursday  evening availability is important, and willingness to chaperone 1-2 overnights per year is a bonus! Please contact Andrea Spencer-Linzie at
andrea@uusociety.org  for more information.
