Most of us try hard to do the right things, as well as we can. It's hard knowing we fall short, sometimes; problems remain unresolved, opportunities missed, and other people get disappointed, even hurt. How does Courage show up when success seems out of reach?
Please join us in person or online! Find the livestream link at uusociety.org or on our YouTube channel. While inside the Meeting House, masks are strongly encouraged.
Following the service, all are welcome to Outdoor Coffee Hour at 11 a.m.
From the Ministerial Search Team
Tom Hyde
We've been enjoying hearing the wonderful variety of ideas that our members and friends have brought to the Listening Sessions. People have used the time together to really think about what is important to them. Let this diversity bloom! It's lucky there are many Sundays in the year, so there can be something for everyone, and we can appreciate each other's tastes.
The number of people who have responded to the survey is going up, but we really need a lot more. This is more important than you might think, because ministers who are considering applying look at the response rate as an indicator of how engaged the congregation is. If you have taken it, thank you - please talk it up to your friends.
And if you haven't already, we also invite you to join us for one of the listening sessions this week and next. You may be surprised to discover what is important to you about First UU. The schedule and the Zoom link are at uusociety.org/members/ministerial-search.
The Ministerial Search Team wants to hear from you. We are planning to have a Listening Session this Sunday, October 23 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Community Room, and on Zoom.
Childcare will be provided, and snacks for the kids and adults alike.
We want to know what you see as the strengths and challenges of FUUSB, and how you would like the new minister to move us forward into the future and where you see that future to be.
Erika Reif, Director of Lifespan Faith Development
Sunday, October 30, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
All of First UU is invited to participate in this annual outdoor seasonal event! The YUUth Group is planning many fun activities for the young at heart, and we are calling on all who are able to join in the creation of ephemeral works of “Nature Art” on our Meeting House grounds. We’ll have some pre-selected natural materials on tables for those who can’t get down low to make their creations. There will be snacks, goodie bags, face painting, storytelling and more! Costumes welcome!
Awakening to Happiness Chalice Circle
Come explore teachings and topics related to spiritual awakening and happiness! We are a new group that will meet on the first and third Wednesday evenings of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at FUUSB. If you are interested in joining, please email Jeff Byam here.
Workshop: The Problem with Plastics
An online workshop sponsored by the FUUSB Climate Justice Team (CJT).
Sunday, November 6 from 4-5 p.m. on Zoom.
This is a rerun of the workshop offered last spring by Linda Cooper and Lisa Lax, members of the FUUSB CJT.
We will show an engaging short video that provides education on this issue, and lead a discussion on ideas for actions that individuals and groups can take. All are welcome.
To secure a place, please email Lisa here, and the Zoom link for the event will be sent prior to the workshop.
From the UUA: Help UUs Recover from Hurricane Ian
Hurricane Ian bore down on Florida with devastating force. The Category 4 storm's 150-mph winds and 12-foot storm surge cut wide swaths of destruction.
The UUA Disaster Relief Fund is here for UU congregations affected by the storm, but we need your help now. The fund is near depletion, and we have been receiving urgent requests from congregations.
Your contribution to the UUA Disaster Relief Fund now will allow us to grant recovery funds right away to Florida congregations who need it—and any other congregations in Ian's path—in the days or weeks before FEMA aid or flood insurance (which few can afford) reaches those in need.
