Join Us for Worship This Sunday!
Sunday, May 12 at 9 and 11 a.m.

Worship Leader:  Rev. Susan Milnor, Interim Senior Minister

Worship Associate: Rodney Lowe

"After Her Own Time"
In June, 1919, nearly one hundred years ago, the United States Congress passed the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution granting women the right to vote in this country. What better time to honor the deeper struggle for agency and, yes, for a better life for everyone's children that we could associate with this day? Do you know how the real Mother's Day began? Do you know the women of color who were part of the suffrage movement? Where have mothers come into this? Our service will include a prayer/blessing for the widely divergent experience of mothering that people bring into this community; the first outing of our Adult Choir with our new director, James Stewart, as they strike a Beatles note; and a Child Dedication ceremony.

Summer Service Schedule Begins May 19
Save the Date

On  Sunday, May 19, we will begin our one-service summer schedule. Join us for worship at  10 a.m. on Sundays!

Last Signing Sunday Before Annual Meeting
Rev Andrée Mol, Developmental Assistant Minister for Pastoral Care and Membership

If you've taken the New UU orientation sessions and made a pledge of financial support to the First UU Society of Burlington but have never signed the Member Book you are still not an official member! The final step of signing the Member Book is quick and easy but sometimes gets overlooked. This Sunday, May 12 is the final date you can sign the Member Book in order to be eligible to vote in our annual meeting on June 2.

This Sunday the Member Book will be available in the Sanctuary right after each service for those who are ready to sign. Please contact Rev. Andrée (andre@uusociety.org) if you have any questions.

Potluck and Coffeehouse
Todd Schlossberg

Join Us for Good Food, Friendship and Music at the
Saturday, May 11 FUUSB Potluck and Coffeehouse

Although in the hills, there's still plenty of snow
Spring is here, and in bloom, in the valleys below
So let's gather, and celebrate the warmth of the sun
Share food, friendship, music, and have us some fun

Join us at the UU this Saturday night
To feast and make music, and share smiles bright
We'll eat, and tell stories, laugh and then sing
At our monthly potluck and coffeehouse thing

At six starts the potluck, a feast to behold
From savory to sweet, from hot and to cold
Bring an entrée, dessert, a salad, or stew
If you can, something yummy, to nourish a few

Sign up, if you're psyched, for the open mic
Or sit back and listen, if that's what you'd like
Share a poem, a story, a solo, or song
Tap your feet, clap your hands, or perhaps hum along

All ages are welcome, all talents are relished
It's a pretty sweet scene, I don't think we embellish
Truth be told, there's not much, that you must do
Apart from this one thing: that is, to bring you!

What : Our Monthly FUUSB Potluck and Coffeehouse
Who : Everyone! Friends and family  welcome
Where : The Parlors, First UU Society of Burlington
When : Saturday, May 11, 6-8:30 p.m.
Bring : A potluck dish, a song, story or poem to perform, yourself
Questions?  Todd Schlossberg:

Meet the Budget
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations and Finance

This year at the Annual Meeting, the Board will be presenting for your approval, a balanced budget! On Sunday, May 19 at 11:15 a.m. and on Monday, May 20 at 6:00 p.m. we will be holding Meet the Budget sessions. This is your opportunity to see a copy of the line item budget for the 2019/2020 fiscal year and to ask questions. Christina Fulton (Director of Operations & Finance), Alana Shaw (Treasurer), and members of the Board of Trustees will be available to share with you the budgeting process and answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend one of these meetings and still have questions you'd like to ask, please feel free to contact Christina at  xina@uusociety.org or 802-862-5630 ext. 22.

Volunteer Recruitment Day
Immediately following the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, May 19 you will have the opportunity to find out about our FUUSB teams.

These teams provide the energy, work, and commitment that keep us running. Please stop by and talk to the teams and SIGN UP for September. Full teams would be a gift to our team chairs, our Society and our new Developmental Minister. Gift yourself with community,  involvement, and service.

Marathon Street Closings - May 26

The FUUSB offices will be closed on
Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday.

Annual Picnic - June 2
SAVE THE DATE: June 2 will be packed with activities: a lovely worship service, our Annual Meeting, all followed by our Annual Picnic! We will be gathering to enjoy community, share wonderful food and bid farewell to Rev. Susan, Rev. Andrée, and Andrea.

Many MAG (ministry area) leaders have stepped up to guide aspects of the picnic. We are still in need of a few key "guides." So please, tap your inner party planner and sign up for:

*co-chair to conduct the action,
*a liaison with staff ahead of the picnic, and
*a photographer.

If you could pitch in and cover one of these spots, it will be a wonderful day and well worth the effort!  Contact Lynn Douglas:  herbalwoman@gmail.com  or (802) 318-2663.

Racism in Unitarian Universalism Book Series
Zoe Hart and Peggy Owen Sands

Our Racism in Unitarian Universalism book series discussion group is beginning the second book in our series -  Centering. This book offers writings from UU religious leaders of color about their experiences leading in a largely white denomination. We will hold two meetings in late June or mid to late July to discuss the book. All are welcome to join us, whether you were part of the first book discussion or not. If you're interested, please contact Zoe ( zoe@hartwood4.net) so we can order you a book and welcome you to the group.

From VIA: Event Updates
The Interfaith Seder at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue on May 23 has been cancelled. Instead, Ohavi Zedek will be sponsoring an Interfaith Celebration of Shabbat (Jewish Sabbath) to be held at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m.

This event will honor stories of refuge and freedom in honor of the UN's World Refugee Day, and in observation of "Refugee Shabbat," designated by HIAS, a lead organization supporting immigrants and immigration. This new date is more suitable, as it does not conflict with Ramadan.

UU Weekend at Silver Bay
October 18-20, 2019

As usual the Albany UU Church is again sponsoring a wonderful weekend for UU's in the northeast this fall at the Silver Bay Association YMCA Family and Conference Center on Lake George.

"Silver Bay Weekend is a gift we give ourselves to reconnect with each other, with nature, with our own selves."

Go to their website for information and registration forms: www.albanyuu.org .
